At home abortion

Hi,

I found out 2 weeks that I'm pregnant. It came as a shock. I already have a 11 month old and a 3 year old. I was breastfeeding and hadn't had a period since before my last pregnancy. Me and my partner have decided to terminate the pregnancy. Due to Covid I have been advised to have an abortion at home. Has anybody been through this procedure? I took the first tablet today and will take the next tablets on Friday. I know it will be Friday that I will bleed and have pain but just wanted to know how long it lasted and was it bearable etc. I am pretty scared. Thank you x

Not an abortion but I had medical management for a miscarriage and had to take tablets.

It started not long after I got home with some light spotting them about an hour where I just sat on the toilet as I was loosing a lot of blood. It calmed down after a bit and went to just like a period and lasted around 9 days.

I had pretty bad pain but all in my back. They gave me a supposotory to use though and that eased it and a hot water bottle.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

Thanks for your reply. My partner will be working on Saturday so hoping I'll be ok to look after the kids x

Thank you. I have a 2 year old, she stayed at My mum's for the night when I took the tablets but I picked her up the next day and I was fine. Hopefully you will be too. I know it's scary but you'll be ok ❤

Is there anyone who can have your children for that day/night?
I stayed with a friend who went through this and although every individual body is different she bled a LOT. Seemed to be worse when she stood up or walked around so may want to make sure you don't have to much to do in terms of housework etc...
Make sure you got all your little comforts, it's like a period X 100

Thanks for your replies. I plan on taking the tablet at 9am Friday. My older son will be at nursery for the day and my partner will be at home looking after the baby. He has to Work Saturday though so hoping I will be ok to have them on Saturday. I'm really scared to be honest and really don't know what to expect x

I had a medical termination in August. A little like yourself I already have young children and it wasn't the right time for us especially with the whole covid situation. How far along are you? I think the further along you are the more pain and bleeding you will get. I wanted a surgical procedure as I felt this would be less traumatic but they refused due to covid and to be honest I'm glad they did! I was 7 weeks, i took the first tablet at around 4pm and the second tablet at 9am the day after. Bleeding started around 10.30am and was heavy but nothing I couldn't cope with. I had no pain whatsoever and at around 1pm i felt like I needed to go toilet and passed what I can only describe as a small egg ( I didn't look, sorry if tmi!). Then I had some on off cramping like mild labour pains for around two hours. The hospital said this was probably my womb contracting back. It was honestly not as bad as alot of the horror storys you read online, by the end of the day i was absolutely fine. I bled for around 3 weeks after. Hopefully your experience will be similar🥰 I know its scary but you can do this! All the best ❤

@bet94 thanks for you reply!
I took the first tablet yesterday. Then this morning I woke up felt a bit crampy and then at 10am the bleeding started. I hadn't even taken the second lots of pills yet. I was bleeding heaving and pass a lot of clots and then like you sAid felt the urge to go toilet and am egg shaped blob came out. Feeling a lot better and bleeding has slowed down drastically. Rung the clinic and they have advised me to still take the second lot of pills just to make sure it's all gone. I think I am over the worse though x

How are you feeling op? Flowers sending an un-mumsnetty hug

Hi,

Thank you much for your messages. I am feeling good surprisingly. It all happened before I even got a chance to take the second lot of pills. I took them just to make sure the procedure was completed but I was absolutely fine by yesterday night.
Feel really bad for saying this but I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I felt the best today that I had done in weeks and I feel guilty for saying that but it's the truth. Thank you for your msgs x x
