Depo side effects

So I tried the Depo contraceptive injection for the first time on Friday. I was fine aside from an upset tummy yesterday but today at lunchtime I felt complete fatigue and an ache in my belly I usually get when my period is due.
I basically passed out for a couple of hours. Luckily my DH was around to take the kids out and leave me to rest!
Has anyone had this with Depo? Are there any other side effects you've had after this injection?

I went through absolute hell on this injection. Had giant boils on my chin & was bleeding for 4 months straight. I had to take the pill on top of it to regulate my periods. I also felt faint a lot & had bad cramps. Stick to the pill op x

That sounds awful @peachyblossom. Everyone seems to react to it differently and you don’t know what it will be like until you try it. Other than the fatigue and a bleed that went on for a while, I’ve not had any side effects. Only that one period too.

I don’t think I could go back to the pill as I wasn’t great at taking it. I have another injection due soon though and I’m not looking forward to what might happen after.

@curlyrebel you're right hun, everyone is different. Glad it's calmed down for you though as it seems like an easy contraception & dont have to remember to take any pills. I'm sure if you've calmed down you'll be fine with the next one :) x

I just found this thread of mine from last year. I'm still on depo and can't believe it's coming up to a year. However I'm going to stop taking it.
Even though my periods have completely stopped, I've had other side effects that I didn't realise were caused by it until recently.

Like you @peachyblossom I've had stomach cramps. I spoke to the doctor about it a while ago but the connection was never made. I've put on lots of weight but I thought it was just me letting things go during all the lockdowns. However I've been exercising lots the last month or two and eating better, but I'm just putting on more weight Confused. Pretty demotivating.

So it's goodbye depo! Not sure I really want to go back on the pill though.
