Periods whilst breastfeeding

Hi All

I have a LO who is 5 months old and EBF. I had my first postpartum period last month.

Are periods irregular whilst breastfeeding, even if you have had your first postpartum period?

Prior to falling pregnant, my periods were very regular.

My husband and I use condoms (and have done for the last few years), so we are being careful, however, I am obviously very aware that no contraception is 100%. I’m driving myself nuts worrying about this ‘late’ period.

Thanks in anticipation of your responses :-)

Mine, were all over the place for 6 months after they came back at 9 months with my first. Do you have any pregnancy symptoms?

I’m exhausted (but I think that comes from having a 5 month old non-sleeper) and have a pain in my back; the last time I had this pain, I turned out to be pregnant but again, could be a result of an ever increasing in weight 5 month old. I had cramps yesterday afternoon so I presumed my period was imminent but it’s not arrived yet.

I think I’m just winding myself up with it all. Breastfeeding really does play with your system and we are extremely careful, but obviously there’s always a niggle that nothing is 100% effective.

I don’t know whether to put myself out of my misery and test, or to save the cash as the likelihood is that I’m not pregnant and I’m being neurotic!

Mine returned regularly almost straight away whilst EBF.

Get a cheap test? Might as well put your mind at ease. The body plays tricks on the mind but sometimes it does warn us too.

Mine have been all over the place while bf’ing. But definitely get a test to set your mind at ease!

I sent the husband out first thing...he bought expensive Clear Blue tests 🙄 I held my FMU and thankfully it was negative!
I feel so out of control with my cycles and breastfeeding!
