Desogestrel and periods

Hi everyone,

I had my son in February last year and went on desogestrel in December. Ever since starting it, I've had a mini 'period' every 3 weeks or so - they only last 3 days or so and are a lot lighter than a normal period, a lot of the time they're mostly just brown discharge (sorry if TMI). However, on Wednesday I started getting awful period pains which I don't usually get since I've been on desogestrel, and since then I've had a really heavy, painful period. Does anyone have any insight as to why I'd suddenly be getting a bad period? I'm breastfeeding so don't know if my hormones would affect it? Previous to having my son, I was on the combined pill and I want to go back onto that after I wean him, as desogestrel so far has just been a pain!

Thank you!

You can actually take the combined pill while breastfeeding although you need to be aware that it may affect milk supply.

@dementedpixie yeah I know but thanks anyway, I just didn't want to take the risk that it would affect my milk supply

Could you try a non desogestrel mini pill instead?

@dementedpixie I'd actually not thought of that, thanks for the suggestion!
