EllaOne Late Period

Hi all.

I've searched through and can't quite find anything similar to my current issue or none seem to have a conclusion so here goes...

My last period started on 20th Feb and ended a few days later which was normal. We had unprotected sex on the 24th and according to my app my fertile window of my cycle began a day later although ovulation wasn't until the 29th. I took EllaOne on the 27th which was well within the window for taking it. I had some severe symptoms but at the time we were unsure whether that's what they were as my partner had similar around the same time (looking back we think they were mild corona symptoms and I wasn't sick). But anyway, although I know the MAP can delay your period I'm now 11days late when I'm normally quite regular and within at lest a day or two of what my app tells me.

I did a test when I was a few days late and it showed as invalid, when I went back to it later that day it said negative but I know to ignore results after 5 minutes so I wrote that one off. Today I did another and it almost instantly said negative. I've called my Dr to try and get a phone appointment due to lockdown and the fact I'm not in the vicinity of my surgery but I'd just like to know what other peoples experiences were.

For the last week one of my breasts have been quite tender at the side and I've had some aches down below. Am I worrying for nothing? My partner experienced 2 ectopic pregnancies with his ex which affected him a lot and I know there's a greater risk of that with MAP so I'm a bit concerned.

I was on the the 3rd day of my menstruation when I had light sex and fingered deep for over 10 15 mins. I decided to take the ellaone pill just to be on the safe side. However it was on the 5th day after intercourse and within the 120 hrs. I've done 2 test but they are negative. I start my period normally on the 8th or the 9th I've had none and its 12 April. I don't knw why this is ? But I am really stressed about this whole situation especially not coming on my period the thought of the pill working or not.

I took Ella one when I was ovulating I did have unprotected sex again after but it was weeks ago my period was due around the 26th of August and I’m now late I’ve taken 5 pregnancy tests all negative my breast’s are not sore I have had watery discharge constant period/pelvic cramps for around 6 days now horrible mood swings and just generally emotional like pms and nausea I don’t know if anyone will see this as the thread is old but thought it was worth a try as very worried , I’m sure it would be showing as pregnant as 21 days since last had sex ?

As with all morning after pills, once you’ve ovulated they won’t work as the way they work is to prevent ovulation so if you’ve had unprotected sex during ovulation there is a very high risk of pregnancy and there’s a 7 day window of ovulation so if you’ve had sex again after taking the pill it kinda defeats the object. Hopefully you’ll be ok but it’s something to be mindful of if you ever need to take it again. Positive tests in theory should be visible on the first day of a missed period but it depends on the level of HCG in your urine. Give it another week and if you still don’t get a positive you should be fine.

Try not to stress- I was in the exact same situation at the beginning of last year. It was weeks before I came on and I was having lots of pregnancy symptoms (sore nipples, tired, period like pain etc) but no period & negative tests. I even received two very faint positives which scared me no end! In the end I came on after about a month and ended up getting the copper coil so I didn’t have to rely on the morning after pill and put myself through this again.
Ella one messed my cycle up completely and I wouldn’t take it again- not worth the stress! If you’re negative now then just give it time and try to relax x

It was took mid ovulation and 5 negative test now so i think it would pick up on it being 21 days since sex I’ve tried all forms of birth control and they all drive me nuts but I’m considering the coil now

Thank you I tested again at 7am and still negative the pain is so bad I’ve spoken to the doctors and waiting for another call back I think the coil is the only option left for me because everything else doesnt

Honestly, the coil was painful to get in but it’s been a life saver. Now I can wait til my wedding next year to start trying and not live in fear of an accident! I got the copper one so no hormones. My period is heavier and longer but not unbearably so.

Hi again and yes I’ve heard the copper is not good for your body but I’m out of options I was celibate for over a year and Ella one was my only option I won’t take it again I’ve still not come on my period and just feel awful most of the day and stressed still having pelvic cramps most of the day the doctor said to test again this week and watch out for ectopic or possible pelvic infection but everything seems normal apart from the cramps etc I’m sure by now I’d of had a positive result 🥺

Just a little update I’m 21 days late went for blood work and I’m not pregnant so it’s definitely the pill 🥴 won’t take this again looking into non hormonal options like the coil

So like all of you I have taken the pill of doom 😩😂🙈 41days since my last period but 11 days late for period dr wasn’t helpful today told me come back when it’s been a good few months 😂 so he can look at my hormones or something pregnancy tests are negative still took MAP on the 15th of September so a good 4 weeks ago! X

I took ellaone 7 months ago. Up to this day I've had very strange dark and light irregular 2 day period 3 x a month then nothing....the manufacturer says only 1 cycle should be messes up. They're lying . I shouldn't have taken it as I was ovulating now I have no idea what's happening with my body. I don't trust them I've heard plan b only affected one cycle. Was definitely not worth the 4 mins of being a sperm receptacle...and to top it off got a uti infection that's lasted 7 months so far. Big regret .

Did you get them again? Are your periods normal now? This pill is seriously the devil. I wish I read the reviews. I'm such an idiot for having the ons without protection.

Is your period the same? I get extremely irregular since. Sometimes a few days of very dark n then light sometimes twice n once 3 months!! N then nothing....its been 8 MONTHS...i think ellaone lied about what's in it.. plan b would've been better. Am I the only who it's impacted like this?

I meant 2/3 times in one month etc...it was never like that before

After one cycle, two at the most, all things returned to normal. I’ve since gone on to have 2 wanted pregnancies so it shouldn’t affect your future fertility. I would suggest you contact the makers of EllaOne and also your GP as what you’re describing is not normal. It’s been a while since I made this post so I can’t remember what exactly I’ve posted in the past but if I recall correctly, if my cycle didn’t return to normal then my GP was going to suggest a cycle of the pill to effectively restart everything. I hope that helps and that you get to the bottom
of things. Just be sure to go to your GP with some actual written notes to suggest you’ve kept a log of everything so they don’t try to send you away to monitor things, you need to show that you’ve already been doing this.
