Got the coil inserted 4 months ago. First 2 months I spotted and had discharge non stop - except for a few days- and had horrendous cramps. Told by the dr it would settle and preserve. Was convinced I had an infection and things didn’t smell great down there. They said no. Also had an ultrasound as they thought the coil had may be moved. It hadn’t. I did and the spotting lessened but cramps stayed.

Periods lasted 9 days and light. As oppose to heavy but lasting 4 days. But I came early, started 2 days after last time had sex. I got horrendous cramps and sore boobs with it.

Month ago things settled. No spotting, but period still long. Cramps horrible few days before. I got an infection, BV from the coil and was put on antibiotics. Think this was there from the start. Things have improved and infection gone.

My last period now only lasted a few days and was so light I didn’t need anything. But I still have sore boobs and cramping, sort of stretching.

Had anyone else experienced this? Is my period finally going?

My experience was a little different. I've had 2 fitted so I'm about 7 years in.

With both of them I've had spotting for about a month followers by really light periods.

Before the Mirena my periods were super heavy.

I've not had a smell or cramping, I don't think sounds usual.

Disaster zone for me!

Coil fitted... horrendous rectal pain for months, to the point i couldnt sit down. Bleed on and off with no patten for about 6 months.

Eventually settled down at 7/8 months. No period for 3 months then one horrendous awful period passing huge lumps. Nearly called an ambulance. No joke.

The following month i discovrred i was pregnant... my body had expelled the coil (turns out it wasnt just a horrendous period) so shock pregnany. My first.

Just get my head round it then had a very traumatic miscarriage and up in emergency surgery 3 weeks later.

So im defo not a fan!!

Oh no that sounds traumatic. So sorry you went through this.

Smell was an infection caused by the coil, which got treated. Was just wondering if the sudden lose in periods and spotting was normal.
