Evening all!
So I went to dr today to have mirena coil removed it's been a long year of battling with it and fighting with dr to get it out but today was the day, off I went determined to be free of this horrid device only ..ITS MISSING! 😱
Dr couldn't find the strings and I have to wait 8 weeks for a scan!
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what was outcome? She said something about hysteroscopy removal?
Surely i would know if it came out right?
Thanks xx

I had ultrasound and xray to find mine. Got it removed under general anaesthetic in the end

We do lots of scans for missing coil threads, vast majority of times it is still there, the threads have just retracted. Might be worth using alternative contraception in the meantime just in case.
I have no idea about removal, but I know family planning clinics do it when GP's can't.

Yes, this happened to me. The practise nurse tried, a week or so later my GP tried. I was advised I’d need a scan/removal under GA and was advised to use additional contraception for the duration in case it had punctured my womb and gone awol. I was able to get in quite quickly to see the consultant who’d looked after my first two pregnancies to get the ball rolling. He asked if he could check (“perhaps it’ll be third time lucky?!”) and was able to remove it there and then.

I hated it while it was in and hated the whole bloody process of trying to get it out. Never again!

I had a IUD (copper, not Mirena) go missing and was told I must have expelled it. I was EXTREMELY sceptical. I just didn’t believe it.
I had gone to have it removed in order to ttc dc2. I got pregnant and went on to need a planned c section due to placenta praevia. I told the consultant that I was missing a coil and asked him to look out for it! He founded this amusing but I was being serious. He told me that it wasn’t anywhere to be found so the only reasonable conclusion is that I did expel it. (I do use tampons and wondered if I had hoiked it out while half asleep!). I’ve had 2 more since. I can never feel the threads myself but nurse has confirmed that she can when I’ve been for a smear.

Thanks @GetOffTheTableMabel @autumnboys @overwork @dementedpixie I hated it from day 1 and this is just another reason i vow I'll never have it again as it happened to my mum and she end up up needing hysterectomy for torn womb. I just want it out now. X
