Does anyone use the female/internal condom?

Long story short, I've run out of contraception methods that don't give me horrendous side effects so now using condoms, but they're not great for totally spontaneous sex.

Apparently the female condom can be inserted before sex and then you're good to go as it were.

Has anyone got any experience of them?

I wanted to try a diaphragm but according to my local gum clinic there's a national shortage of the things so it's impossible to get one fitted.

Once, and once only, back in the 80s. Unless they've improved a lot I wouldn't recommend. My partner hated it too and thought it was like a plastic bag. I happily used a diaphragm for years, but they've gone out of fashion as they are fiddly to fit and need the size checking regularly. If I remember right, nurses aren't trained to fit them these days.

Thanks for the reply @Jaguarana. I've ordered a pack of 3 online to see what they're like.

I tried to get a diaphragm fitted for months and couldn't get an appointment. When I finally did I then got told there's a shortage so they're not offering them. I'm also not totally happy with the higher failure rate than other contraception.

Ideally I want to be sterilised but my GP won't refer me.
