Hello
I suffer from painful and heavy periods so was prescribed Microgynon from a very young age which worked really well for me. Around 3 years ago my GP noticed I was suffering from high pressure and said it was caused by the pill.

I was then prescribed the mini pill - cerelle. It stopped my periods for a year which was great. I then started to receive cezerette or another generic brand from my gp who said it was the same as cerelle.

The 2nd year my periods were every 2 months. Now in the last year my periods are heavy and last 3 weeks. I have a 3 week bleed then 3 weeks without
I’m 28 years old and really can’t handle the bleeding and pain.
Has anyone else suffered the same or can recommend another brand of mini pill?
I would consider the injection or coil. I have gained around 2 stone in the last 2 years( my own fault not the pills!) do you think this can be affecting the pill? I’m making big changes to my diet to get to a healthier weight

Any advise is really appreciated

Thanks

Cerelle and cerazette and the generic have the same active ingredient, desogestrel, in the same amounts, so in theory there should be no difference. But like you I can’t explain why one brand worked better for me than another, I get on really well with cerazette but not cerelle.
If you particularly like cerelle you can get it on private prescription from Superdrug online. It won’t be free but it’s not expensive either.

Hi. I have been on desogestrel now for one year. From the start it was problematic as I just bled constantly. I had periods then light bleeding in between. It did seem to regulate my periods a bit more though. Then in August this year I was 2.5 weeks late and then had the period from hell. Even got the preg kit out to check! Then at the end of September I had a normal period but only one week after that ended I had another and it was heavy. Every single day it was so heavy and it went on for 2.5 weeks in the end. I caved in and went to the docs on day 12. Currently awaiting blood and swab tests and booked in for a scan but GP feels it is hormone related. She told me to stop taking the pill immediately so it must be well known that it can cause very erratic bleeding. Which is ironic as I was put on it to try to stop the bleeding in the first place! I've been a week off it now and I already feel better in myself. There seem to be many women who this works for but also many who it doesn't. I am baffled as to why it's suddenly got worse. I am hoping the test results are all ok so that they can hopefully put it down to the pill.
