Mini pill mid cycle

I'm wanting to start going back on the mini pill. This 1 says to start the first day of your period. I still have a good while before my period starts. Has any1 started taken it almost mid cycle and taken other precautions? The nhs website says you can take it at any time but the leaflet says 1st day of your period.
Is it not safe to take it mid cycle or would it be okay to start?

You can start it at any time as long as you know you aren't pregnant. Its 2 days of pill taking before you are protected
