Cerelle/cerazette

Hi,

I was just wondering if anybody has been in the same or a similar position as me.

My little boy was born in October, he is very poorly as a result of being starved of oxygen for 26 minutes at birth and subsequently being diagnosed with grade 3 HIE. He’s been in and out of hospital all of his life.

I decided in April to go back on the pill, even though we don’t have time for anything like that, I don’t want to take any risks if it does happen especially with having my hands full with Jaxon.

My cycle has been quite regular from a couple of months after giving birth. I made the decision to go back on Cerelle, the pill I was on for about 5 years before coming off for a couple of years and getting pregnant. It had always served me well and I’d only bleed 2-3 times a year on it. I do have PCOS. I can’t take the combined pill due to being overweight and the risks etc.

I started taking it on the first day of my period around 22nd April and everything was fine. I bled for a few days as normal then stopped. On 20th May I started to bleed again for a few days but when the heavy period-like bleeding stopped I had some brown spotting. The spotting continued every single day, not heavy it was more when I wiped but enough that I needed to wear a liner until 18th June when I started to bleed heavily as if it was a real period again. That finished on 25th June and the daily brown spotting continued until 6th July when I started with heavy period-like bleeding again. That lasted until 14th July and then the daily brown spotting once again continued. I decided I’ve had enough and on Saturday 13th July I took the last pill in the packet and stopped taking it. On the evening of 18th July I started with the period-like bleeding again which I’m assuming is the withdrawal bleed after stopping the pill, it’s not really enough to fill a pad but there’s some red blood present when I wipe.

I should add that on the 20th May, the first day I started with this continuous bleeding, Jaxon was admitted into hospital and hasn’t been home since. He’s been diagnosed with a seizure disorder called Infantile Spasms, had trouble tolerating feeds and failing to gain weight, he’s undergone gastrostomy surgery on 11th July and had a 4 day stint on life support from 12-16th July where we weren’t sure he was going to even survive. He’s still quite poorly with an infection and is on HDU so I’m under a lot of stress.

I went to the doctors on Tuesday as I’ve managed to get myself into a bit of a panic and she said she thinks the continuous bleeding is due to the pill. She said she would expect the bleeding to stop within a couple of weeks from coming off the pill. I had to cancel my planned smear last Thursday as I was still bleeding, it was due in April but I cancelled it because I was poorly then Jaxon ended up in hospital so I’ve not had chance to go. The doctor said if I’m still bleeding next week to go back and she’ll take some swabs, so I have an appointment booked for Friday that I can cancel if it stops in the meantime.

I wish I’d never gone back on Cerelle, it seems since having my little boy my body can no longer tolerate it and these bleeding problems started after I went back on the pill.

Has anybody had anything similar with Cerelle with unusual bleeding and daily spotting in between periods? I’m worried thinking something is really wrong and that’s why I’m bleeding even though those closest to me are trying to reassure me it’s down to the pill. I’m just surprised as I never had anything like this on it before giving birth, if anything I rarely bled at all on it, never had daily bleeding. Prior to starting the pill my periods were quite regular with no spotting at all in between.

Also to any ladies that had the continuous bleeding on Cerelle who stopped taking the pill, when did the bleeding/spotting stop after coming off it? I took my last pill two weeks ago today, started with the period like bleed 9 days ago and am still yet to have a bleed free day in almost 10 weeks.

Thank you x

I took cerazette for 8 months and bled every day until I had an ablation on my womb. I bled for 18 hours post surgery, then no more bleeding.

Hoping yours stops soon x

I’m so frustrated, Wednesday and Thursday last week the bleeding was almost gone (only just a tiny smudge each time I went to the toilet) so I thought finally, it’s stopping. Cancelled my drs appointment for Friday then it came back Friday afternoon, not as much as it used to be but more than the previous two days.

It’s definitely way way lighter than it has been. It is only a tiny amount when I go to the toilet, there’s no clots when I wipe like there was when I was actually on the pill (sorry tmi), just little brown or red stains when I wipe every time I go to the toilet.

It’s 3 weeks since I took my last pill. I’m going to give it a few more days then I’ll have to book another appointment with the drs if it doesn’t stop. I do think it’s pill related based on the fact it’s a lot less now that I’ve come off the pill and there’s no other symptoms, pain etc. Just frustrating that I haven’t actually had a completely full bleed free day in 11 weeks now.

Has anybody else had it where the bleeding has taken a few weeks to stop when they’ve come off the pill after having continuous or irregular bleeding?

Thank you

I was on cerelle for years with no issues, no bleeding or anything.

Went back on it after having my 2nd child and it really reacted with my body. Awful mood swings and anxiety and irregular bleeding...not constant but periods lasting 10 days then very light bleeds or spotting in between.

Basically i ended up seeing a gynae for another issue and she mentioned that this is really common when going back on contraception after having a baby, your body reacts differently. I stopped taking cerelle and haven't had any issues with bleeding since....apart from slight longer cycles but that's ok!

I started starting Cerazette about 7 weeks ago. First few weeks were fine then my period started when roughly when it was due and has now been going for 2 weeks solid.

Sorry..

I had exactly the same thing. My period never stopped it just went lighter and heavier. I lasted 3 months and gave up as couldn't cope any more

How long did it take for the bleeding to stop after you stopped taking the pill? I’ve been off it 3 weeks and even though it’s loads lighter than it was when I was on the pill, it’s still there when I go to the toilet x
