Copper coil failed?

I have the copper coil and have done for over a year now... I've been regular with my periods every 29 days.
I'm now 6 days late and panicking. I can't get to a supermarket to buy a test till this evening.. but I just wondered if anyone had heard of the copper coil failing before?!

I have heard of it but not anyone I know personally. Is the coil definitely still in place? It could be just a long cycle, which can happen if you ovulate late.

My son (youngest of three) was conceived with a copper T in place. I knew I was pregnant very early on, had the IUD removed and the pregnancy continued uneventfully.
