Hello I had my little girl 7 months ago and have been using condoms as my form of contraception. I feel as though I am being irresponsible and me and my husband should be using something safer. I've been on lots of contraception in the past and added hormones don't agree with me hence why we are using condoms. I'm going to go and talk to the doctors about getting a coil fitted ? What's people's opinions on the coil I've only Hurd negative ones so far

Hello, I had the Mirena coil fitted about two months ago after have my third (and last) baby. I had a lot of bleeding for about three weeks but then it stopped completely. I didn't find the insertion any more uncomfortable than a smear, and had some very minor stomach cramps in the hours afterwards. I had a 6 week check which took five minutes.

My best friend has had the Mirena for years with no issues. She is also a GP and recommended it to me. However, every woman (and every body) is different so you should always get some professional advice and discuss your medical history in case there's something that means it won't work for you. You can have it removed if you're not happy.

Good luck.

ps Condoms are very effective if used correctly, but people don't always get them on properly, and obviously they can tear if you're not careful.
