I'm pregant with my second child and me and hubby want this to be our last so im considering my options for once this baby is here but ive a mixed history with contraception.
Pill - about 9 years on the pill but it gave me migraines (took me way to long to link the 2!) so dont want to go back.
Merina - turned me totally mental! i liked it physically but mentally i had serious issues!
mini pill - been pretty good, no periods at all, no real side effects - low libido but maybe thats just getting old!, but long term im not sure i can be bothered with the pill and really dont want to accidently miss one and have another baby!
condoms - no thanks - bin bag sex urgh.
hubby wont get steralised because he's scared of needles.
so i feel like i have 3 remaining options (4 if you count abstenence!)
get steralised - long wating lists make this not too appealing. also you have to wait until your child is 12months before they will consider you! so thats not much of a real option.
copper coil - years of contraception means i cant remember what periods are like (i got pregnant stright off contraception both times) , people say your periods are heavier - i dont think i was heavy before but then ive enjoyed most my adult life without the disadvantage of bleeding - on hoilday, for swiming etc etc so im not sure i want to go back. but then no hormones appeals - but ive read a lot of horror stories.
implant - hormons again so im scared what might happen - dont know much about it but again theres horror stories. do you have much bleeding - is it like the mini pill?

so WWYD - copper coil or implant? any expereinces of them - good and bad. Especially for anyone whose got experience of the mini pill before hand and can compare.

thanks

I've had the implant twice and absolutely love it. In the 3 years it lasts I've had a few light periods and a few days of spotting which is amazing as before hand I used to have horrendous periods. It's great to not have to remember to take or use something and its really easy to have put in and taken out or replaced. I have no cons!

Is there a reason the injection isn't an option? That's what I'd go for if I got fed up of the pill I think. They last 3 months, so I suppose there's the faff of arranging appointments, but at least if you don't get on with it you don't have all the trouble of trying to get it removed like you would with the coil or implant.

Injection wad8 terrible for me. Lots of spotting and huge weight gain. I gave up after my second one. Cerazette stopped my periods and so did the mirena coil. Dh has had the snip now so I don't use anything

Indoraptor · 02/09/2018 10:29

I would start with the copper coil and see how you get on with it. The side effects are more rapidly reversible than the implant/injection which would worry me if I’d had problems with the Mirena.

Hang on a minute, OP.
You’ve been through two pregnancies and labour, you’ve suffered innumerable side effects from contraception, and yet your pathetic DH won’t get a vasectomy because he’s “scared of needles”?!!!
I’d tell the poor little diddums that he either gets a vasectomy or he never has sex again. And mean it.
