Could it be the pill?

Ive been on microgynon 30 for just over 2 years now. Ive put on 2 stone steadily since then although my diet hasn't changed. I get terrible migraines during my pill free week, and the last few months have noticed my mood is disgusting, just snapping and getting annoyed over the smallest things that wouldn't normally bother me. Im also teary all the time. Could it be the pill? Anyone else felt similar on the pill? If so any suggestions on what other birth control might be worth looking at?

That really does sound like the pill. Have you spoken to your gp about your symptoms? Maybe try a non hormonal contraception. I had an IUD before ttc dd1 and it was amazing not using artificial hormones. I'd used a few different combined pills, the mini pill, the implant and all of them made my weight difficult to control and altered my moods. I don't trust just using condoms. I've had another IUD inserted and it's great. DH has now had the snip but I plan to keep my IUD just to be extra sure I won't get pregnant Grin

If you're getting migraines on it you need to stop and avoid oestrogen.

I descended into the darkest depression within four months of taking Microgynon (in my mid-twenties). Was crying all the time, couldn’t see anything positive in my life. During this time I was a fit, healthy young woman in a happy relationship. It is not until I stopped the pill that I made the connection with my mood. It also killed my libido and any enjoyment from sex. AND I put on shed loads of weight.

I swore off combined pill after that terrible experience.

There is now a proven documented link between the use of combined pill and prescription of antidepressants.

Progesterone only pill was a bit better moods-wise, but same uncontrollable weight gain, low libido etc

Now on Natural Cycles (been just over a year) and it is great to have no artificial hormones messing up my life and well-being.

Try Searching this forum, it is galling how many women have bad experience with the hormonal contraceptives. But the doctors seem to be in denial or play the issue down a lot.

You need to see your gp, when I had migraines on the pill I was told I couldn't use oestrogen contraceptives ever again. It puts you at a higher risk of stroke.
