Mirena Removal

Hi everyone!

I’m hoping there is someone out there who can offer some friendly advice please.

I had my Mirena removed 3 days ago on Monday afternoon after having it for 4 years. The reason for having it removed was due to periods starting back up gradually from the beginning of the year and then constant spotting for the last 3 months.

I didn’t have a great time on it overall. Insertion was, like a lot of women experience, very very painful, and I bled/spotted for approx a year after. I had most of the side effects, except that I had weight loss rather than gain. I also had some sort of period every month still and insane PMS!

Removal was pretty easy and a crampy pinch. I was surprised that I didn’t really cramp that much afterwards. I starting cramping on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning started bleeding really heavily! I don’t know if i’m just not used to it anymore, but it seems like an awful lot. I asked my Dr about this specifically and she said no more than a few days spotting, maybe a ‘little’ bit heavier. This morning I was expecting a flood when I went to the toilet but it was just lots and lots of brown discharge (sorry if tmi).

I don’t know what to think! Should I have called the surgery about the heavy bleeding? I do know it can happen and would rather not call the surgery unnecessarily.

Any other ladies who experienced this? Kindly no horror stories please as I’m feeling pretty fragile 😂

Thank you.
