Could I ask, for those that choose this route what the procedure is like and also what recovery time is like please? Also what were the things you'd wished you'd known about before you'd had it done like did your periods stay the same as in regular, heaviness of bleeding, that sort of thing. I'm 38 now and can't be doing with a toddler in my 40s. My family is complete and I'm sick and fed up of female contraceptives wrecking my body.

I had mine in 1990, so not sure how relevant, but I hope someone else will be along soon to reassure you.

I had an overnight stay in hospital after keyhole surgery and a general anaesthetic.

Post op recovery was quick, back at full time work a couple of days later, felt as if I had had a heavy period.

Periods unaffected. I was 30 and have never regretted it. Good luck Flowers.

Hi

I was sterilised yesterday so can't help with long term answers but might be able to help a little.

I've been begging to be sterilised for 10 years before the doctor finally agreed, im 34.

Our first baby was still born at 35+4, I then had a misscarriage before our son was born (now 12) then my coil failed resulting in DD (now 10) then last August I found out I was pregnant again (condom failed), there was no way I could go through it all again so I had a termination, this is when the doctor finally agreed enough was enough and referred me and just over a year later it's finally been done.

I had my pre op last week which was just height, weight and blood pressure really.

Yesterday I went to the hospital at 12.30 (nil by mouth from 7.30). I was first in at 1.45. Asleep 1.55. Awake 2.55 and home by 5.30 including the 20 min drive.

I have an incision in my belly button and one near my right hip. I was sent home with max strength ibuprofen and oral morphine but haven't really needed them. I had period type pain yesterday and a little bleeding but the ache in my back was worse, they fill you full of air and it gets trapped, I feel OK. I'm slow on my feet and it's a struggle to get out of bed but I'm not in any pain.

So far, so good....I hope.
