Periods after implant wears off

My contraceptive implant was due to be changed last month. I no longer need it for contraception so haven’t rushed off to get it changed. I’m 44. How long is it likely to be until my period returns?

I had mine taken out and it took a few months but not sure if that's the same if you've left it in. It can take up to a year if I remember rightly after having it removed though usually return before then (like mine did)

Are you going to get it taken out?

I wasn’t going to bother getting it taken out. Had one removed before and period returned after two or three months but wondering if I leave it in will they stay gone a year or more? Would be nice to see a period again but imagine after a few months will want it replaced just to be rid of them but if I let it return with implant in situ then the removal/replacement will leave just one new scar instead of two. Have had several already so arm is a bit of a mess!

I'm not sure to be honest.

I do know that if it's left to long it can become embedded in your arm and they can struggle massively to get it out.

Happened to a friend and it took 2 people to do it, one stretching the skin the other trying to get it out. So I imagine it would be better to have it removed, even though it scars otherwise you might end up with a bigger scar in the end.

I know how annoying it is I've got 4 scars from it. The last time it was put in I had to have it out after 3 months though it just didn't agree with me for some reason, probably my hormones after baby 🙈
