Coil plus Pill?

Hi,
I'm on the Mirena coil. Have been for 18 months after irregular, heavy periods. It has massively reduced periods and stabilised them a bit, but in recent months they have gone haywire and I am almost always bleeding to some extent.

I went to my GP and had the swabs for cervical cancer etc., but she also gave me a prescription for the pill to use in conjunction with the coil.

I'm reluctant to take it though, as I stopped taking the pill about 8 years ago, after switching pills numerous times, because every one I tried made my irregular periods worse, plus mood swings, cramps and weight gain on some of them.

I only got the coil fitted to regulate my periods, which were irregular without hormonal contraception, but even worse on the pill. I was reluctant to even try the coil after 8 years of nothing, but numerous doctors said it was the best option for me due to low hormone dose directly into the womb. Now a new doctor is telling me to use the pill as well, which (although I've not used this particular one before) gave me nothing but grief.

Has anyone else used both to regulate periods? Are there any other options? I could pay for a second opinion but I don't know if the pill plus coil will just be the standard answer?

Any advice? Thanks.

Yes I had coil and mercilon for three years continuously (no pill free week).
