Hoping for some advise. I had the ten.year copper coil put in 3weeks ago and in.the last week my pelvic area is tender and ihave an uncomfortable feeling of pressure most if the day which is niggly. Im also very bloated..is this normal for any of you and will it improve?x also not yet had a period so really worried about the amou t of blood flow. I work full time and cant be constantly at the toilet because im.a teacher yet have read some people cant really leave the house in the first few days of their period...winding myself up over it all. Im 41so not allowed on combined pill anymore and all other contraception has had side effects of acne or spotting so its kind of my last resort. Any advise as the stories ive read havent been good

The copper coil was the worst thing for me, crazy mood swings, heavy periods lasting two weeks and pain... I swapped to a Mireya and it was much better!

I have a hormone deficiency though so needed an iud with progesterone only and the copper coil has no hormones I think!

tulip85 · 04/04/2018 21:26

Meant to say Mirena

I have the copper coil and haven’t had any problems.
I haven’t had the symptoms you describe. I think you should go to get that checked out.

The minera gave me acne unfortunately. I did wonder if to get it checked but when I read up other people said they had similar but the go just said it was ok. I cant get to the gp for a couple of weeks as on holiday so thats why wasnt sure if to just see it went.

I had similar with the copper coil. I'm all honesty it took 2-3 months to completely settle down and then it was fine. I kept it in for five years no problem

dementedpixie · 04/04/2018 22:13

combined pill is ok over 40 as long as you aren't overweight, don't smoke and don't have high blood pressure

dementedpixie · 04/04/2018 22:14

Have you tried the mini pill? It stopped my periods for years

Queenofthedrivensnow · 04/04/2018 22:14

I didn't have the bloating or pain just the periods from hell though after a year they have settled but still heavier

jellybean321 · 04/04/2018 22:25

The mini pill gave me bad acne . I have asked about the combined pill again as it was great for me for the last 20 years! But the gp said no after 40 . I just hope it settles down fleetingthinker. ! Queenofthedrivensnow thats what im.worried about with the periods as have a job t keep down and worried how bad they can be!x

www.womens-health-concern.org/help-and-advice/factsheets/contraception-older-woman/ combined pill can be used until age 50 if no risk factors. Could you see a different GP?

jellybean321 · 04/04/2018 22:36

Thanks for that leaflet. Id have t go to a different gp practise. Sounds silly but at 50 then whats next? Im.guessing not everyone is definitely going through the menopause also my mums recently had breast cancer so.wasnt sure if that was a factor?
