Cooper coil

Hi, hope someone can help.
So I decided to have the copper coil fitted as been on the mini pill for some time and my mood swings were awfull.
I had this done yesterday it was not the nicest of things to get done and was painfully. Yesterday evening I was in a lot of discomfort with cramps ( iv not had periods pains for about 8 years) slept awfull last night because of it, today still in discomfort and bleed over night, this morning when I went to the toilet I had what looks very much like the plug you lose before going into labour (sorry to much information). Just wanted to hear other peoples experience on having coil fitted.

I had an awful 1st time which I won’t go into.
2nd coil was mega painful and I actually passed out walking home, The ambulance was called and I went to A&E, the doctor felt my lower abdomen and made me check the threads then I was sent home as he said everything was fine. During the 6 week check up the nurse said I could experience pain for a while as the womb contracts to push out the foreign body (coil) until it gets used to it.
It ended well and I kept it in for 5 years, I’m on my 3rd coil now.
Generally pain & bleeding isn’t nice for 6months-1 year.
If it’s unbearable then you should have it removed.

Keep an eye on any kind of discharge...did you have swans taken before the coil was inserted?

Yes I had swabs taken at the same time as I had coil put in.

At my doctor surgery they won’t insert the coil until the swab results are back/negative.

My period blood really ranges...So metines at the end of my period it can appear a bit plug like.

Yes, similar experience. After my first copper coil I had bad cramping and heavy bleeds for along time after, I think on and off for about 10/12 weeks. But, after that it all settled down and totally fine.

Obviously if the pain gets too much, or the bleeding is too heavy though, get it checked out.

I didn’t have any problems having it fitted. It think it does make cramps worse and my periods heavier though. But it’s the most reliable non-hormonal method so I put up with it.

I had 2 copper coils which covered about 20 years between them.
A bit crampy to insert with a bit of bleeding for a day or two but they were no problem whatsoever after that.my periods were a little heavier and longer than they would have been without the coil and I had a little more discharge but in every other way they were fantastically reliable and side effect free.
