Mirena - still bleeding randomly

Like title says - I had a mirena fitted in Aug last year so approx 6 mths ago and I’m still randomly bleeding. It’s not heavy but is approx every 2 weeks and lasts a few days. It’s just bloody annoying as I keep ruining knickers and am getting uti/irritated by constant use of mooncup and sanitary towels. Will it ever end?! I had horrific periods before so this is preferable. Just. But at least they were predictable.

Hi, I have a Mirena for heavy periods, it took about 9 months for the random bleeding to stop, I didn’t consider having it removed beacause like you it was preferable to anemia and flooding every month. I have not had any bleeding at all for a year which is bliss so really worth persevering for me, if your getting repeat UTIs maybe have a word with your GP as moon cups shouldn’t cause these and could be unrelated.

Thank you for replying! That’s good to know, i only ever read bad things about the mirena and it’s hard to find the middle ground.
I’m just guessing it’s the constant use of something that’s caused the utis than just the mooncup? I could be wrong tho and it’s just a coincidence. I was hoping I’d be one of the lucky ones whose periods totally stopped. Your story gives me hope!

Only thing you can do is give it time I’m afraid, for me 9 months was a small price to pay for 5 years period free, I have many friends who have the Mirena and all of them have similar experiences and were all eventually period free, I think it’s quite rare for periods to completely stop a short time after insertion so fingers crossed yours will eventually stop.
