Implant Problems

Hello :)

I’m putting this here because I put it in another subject which maybe wasn’t as relevant.

I'm just looking for some help to see if anyone has any problems with the Implant? I should say that I'm 24, been on contraceptives since I was 15 and I have no children.

I got it put in over 2 years ago so it's due to come out in a few months anyway... basically I thought all was going swell for the first year and a half but middle of 2016 I started getting really sore joints in my knees, started spreading to my elbows. The sore areas would also become red and slightly inflamed. I also began getting really hot legs at night making it difficult to sleep.

I've had the other usual side affects - TOM coming every second week now for the past few months, occasionally moody and feeling generally s*.

I also put on about 1 and a half stone despite going to the gym 4-5 times a week, walking to and from walk (which is about 4 miles a day) and cutting out the usual crap and just cannot shift a pound - this being the most common side affect I've seen.

The GP has been brilliant, she's gone through all the blood tests, checking for arthritis, Thyroid and auto immune disease - been to a rheumatologist twice and a dermatologist (reckon they were scraping the barrel when I went to him) but nothing so the GP reckons it could be my implant causing it and wants it removed - which will be a huge relief when its removed, if that's the problem.

Can anyone please say if they've had any similar issues particularly with the joints? I really hope it's the problem and that'll be it fixed.

Also, if anyone has had it removed recently, did you feel like you felt "normal" when it was taken out?

Thank you so much

I didn’t have problems with joints but if the hormone in the implant is running out it could cause your period problems. I felt back to myself within the hour of having it out though. If your dr is suggesting it is removed I would go with that. Plenty of other progesterone only methods if you have been alright bleeding wise the rest of the time. Hope this helps x

I've had a sore back for the last few months, noticing it more and more now. Originally put it down to a number of things, needing new mattress (had a new one for a year now), they way I was standing when balancing toddler on my hip, blaming it on having had an epidural, sitting too long, standing too long etc but I've only just found out sore backs can be a side effect of this. Just made an appointment to get it removed now after 2 years of having it.
