Vasectomy - Private

I know that it's very difficult to get a vasectomy on the NHS for a male, particularly if they are under 30 and haven't yet had any children.
Is this the case doing it privately aswell?
Are they just as strict or does it work differently if you're paying for it?

If paying they will just do it.

It’s not difficult at all. Call the BPAS and/or Marie Stopes helplines. Most of their centres offering surgical abortions also offer vasectomy. It’s free.

DH was done by Marie Stopes. I think the cost (including post-operative semen testing until clear) is about £500.

I think it's better than NHS, because the doctors who carry them out are are doing vasectomies nearly every working day. That level of experience reduces risk of surgeon error (though does not in any way mean no risk of complications).

DH has a telephone consultation before they booked him for the procedure (straightforward, as he was over 50 with DC) and they could offer him a range of dates/locations, with slots readily available from about a week after the phone consultation (we went for about 3 weeks later, as that fitted what we already had in the diary).

It is possible to secure the procedure aged under 30, but the pre-op consultation might be more detailed in those circumstances.

Most NHS snips are done by a GP in his usual consulting room. Never again. Even my wife thought it was like some back street abortion clinic. Mine went very wrong.
