How long does it after a vasectomy to become sterile?

My DH got the snip at the beginning Oct this year and I was wondering how long it would take for him to be "clear". I've been told he can't hand in a sample until 16 weeks have passed.
We stupidly had a drunken fumble and he didn't use a condom. I was wondering what was the likely hood of accidental pregnancy. I am so embarrassed by this whole ordeal. We have two kids and felt like our family was complete. He agreed to get sterilized as I have a number of problems that could make surgery difficult.

Any advice?

Other contraception should be used for the 8 weeks after sterilisation. Still a chance of pregnancy before all clear tests have been done. Don't panic. Test and then use something until he's been tested.

We were over 6 months before the all clear . Was it last night? Can you access emergency contraception?

Thank you for replying. It's been after 8 weeks now and we had been using condoms (just not this one time) and I've been worried sick. I'm hoping AF shows up soon. We will be using condoms until his test results come back or we won't be having sex full stop now! Blush

It wasn't last night it was over a week ago. I stupidly thought he had disposed of the condom like he always does. Confused

Up to 3 months or longer to be clear.

It’s highly unlikely you’ll be pregnant but not impossible. It’s too late now to do anything so I guess you have to sit and wait. Try not to worry too much.

If I haven't had AF by the 31st I will do a test. My cycle apps are telling me different things. I normally record my menstrual cycle due to heavy abnormal bleeding on a regular basis. One app says I'm due on today. Another says 26th December. I feel like a prize prat!

I took MAP twice in the months awaiting the all clear, because after surgery to remove fertility, it's awfully difficult to wait Blush

But yes, until you have had the all clear, you could be at risk. It's been a little while since you posted, L0V3 - are you OK?
