Mirena Coil Stopping Periods?

Unexpectedbaby · 15/11/2017 21:08

I have had my coil now since end of march and have a 11mo DD.

After the initial prolonged bleeding my periods have been a bit all over the place, getting lighter over past few months, almost just spotting the last 2. Now I'm 8-10days late. Been getting symptoms such as sore boobs, light cramping, changes in discharge (sorry if TMI) as I normally would but not period.

4 pregnancy tests now done and all negative.

Is this likely to just be my periods stopping from the coil?

Yes, most likely - my experience on the mirena has been very similar.

dementedpixie · 15/11/2017 21:47

I didn't have a period for 5 years with the mirena coil.

MirandaWest · 15/11/2017 21:48

I don't have periods with my mirena coil. I do sometimes get sore breasts etc as I would before a period and very occasionally a tiny bit of brown blood but no actual period.

Thank you for your replies.

If it is stopping my periods i think I will have to find an alternative. I was on the pill with no periods for 6 years which was bliss but didn’t find out I was pregnant until extremely late so now over paranoid.

This just isn’t good for my mental health, or bank balance with the purchasing of pregnancy tests all the time!

11 years, 2 x mirena = no periods grin

HotelEuphoria · 16/11/2017 20:42

Six years without a period on the Mirena for me. Six years of bliss, no pain, no mess, no expense. So sad to see it go.

DramaAlpaca · 16/11/2017 20:44

After I got the Mirena my periods gradually got lighter over about six months then stopped completely.

NoParticularPattern · 16/11/2017 20:44

I loved my mirena because it stopped my periods. I think I had maybe two or three in the whole four years I had it in. If (now) DH hadn’t proposed I think I’d probably have married that coil instead!
