I mentioned using this to the HV today and she made a face about how ineffective it is. Is it really? I don't mind messing around down there and my weight doesn't fluctuate...

Have just had DC#4 and am EBF so am infertile until I totally stop BF if past experience is anything to go by, but still want something just in case it's different this time.

Don't want hormones. Fed up with condoms. Not yet ready to send DH for the snip...

Maybe see someone in a family planning clinic? GPs don't fit them much these days and I don't know how informed the HV may be on them. They're possibly not as effective as the pill but I thought that used correctly and with the spermicide the diaphragm is considered to be good as a contraceptive.

What about a copper coil? Extremely effective and very few side effects/faff. I have one and I love it!

newtlover · 30/08/2017 21:16

we used it for years
pros- nothing in your system, use when needed only
cons- bit of a faff, spermicide smells/tastes odd
I would not have used it if pregnancy would have been a disaster, but it suited us fine at the time

Coil won't work: it either contains hormones or stops implantation...

Glad that people have had good experiences with the diaphragm. Pregnancy wouldn't be a disaster of epic proportions and since sex is quality over quantity with four kids already, I like the idea of not using condoms.

I will find my local FPA clinic...
