Infection after Mirena replacement....feeling dreadful.

Had coil taken out and replaced at GPs surgery early last week, had to have a cervical block and dilatation to fit it. Heavy bleeding night it was fitted, then seemed to taper off but very crampy and uncomfortable. By Sat am, I was in quite a lot of discomfort and it seemed to be coming from my bladder but I rang 111 and explained I'd had a coil fitted. OOH Dr I saw was very dismissive and just gave me a course of Trimethoprim even though my sample was clear...
Fast forward to today, been awake half the night in agony so went to GP and saw practice nurse. She immediately said it was probably my coil and not a UTI, so did an exam to check the strings and found I'd got a blood clot covering my cervix and the coil strings and it had got a bit infected. She had to get rid of the clot and took swabs to send off, but said she could see strings and doesn't think it has perforated womb lining or anything. I've since had horrid dark blood coming away, which she said may happen and I've got 2 courses of antibiotics (Metronidazole and Nitrofurantoin) and she said to go back immediately if the pain gets any worse. I feel absolutely dreadful, and just wondered if anyone else has had the same after a fitting? This is my 4th coil and I've never had an issue before..........

Didn't want to read and run, sorry to read this hope you will soon start feeling better. Had first coil fitted yesterday so don't have any experience to share with you

I'm waiting for my appointment to get mine removed under general anaesthetic as the strings have gone missing. Would not have another one although I enjoyed having no periods

Thanks for your replies. I'm still not much better after 4 days on antibiotics. I've said to my DH that if it's still feeling this bad in another week, the blasted thing is coming out. But then I don't know how I'm going to cope with my periods........
