Out of Options

Right that's it I'm officially out of contraceptive options barring sterilisation which is still on the table but I want to make sure I'm covered all my bases.

Before someone says 'just get him to get the snip' - NOT AN OPTION - it's been discussed, not happening, no way, not ever!

I've just had a mirena removed after 2 years as it was making me crazy, I'm now on Cerelle which is making my boobs ache something terrible - going to have to stop taking it.

I've had the jab - don't want it again, don't want the implant (makes me feel all cringy!)

I've had microgynon, yasmin and a low oestrogen pill (can't remember which) - all made me some sort of weird or had side effects that I didn't like.

I tried a copper coil - it was in for a matter of minutes before it was removed as I had a funny reaction to it.

OK - where does this leave me??

Condoms

Groovee · 24/07/2017 12:31

We used condoms for 5 years prior to dh's snip! A bit of a faff but we just worked it into the foreplay.

Have had a complete nightmare recently on cerazette that I am relieved to be off it. It made me a a boiling pot of water ready to explode constantly.

I recently had gynae surgery and the surgeon said I needed contraception and was pressuring me into the mirena or the depo. I told her that if it went wrong to wake me up and I would get a hysterectomy instead. Then she got a bit stroppy when I said I would go back to condoms.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/07/2017 12:38

Diaphragm? Do you still get those?

AfunaMbatata · 24/07/2017 12:54

Condoms, female condom, diaphragm..

BriennetheBeauty · 24/07/2017 13:03

Does anyone use a diaghragm??

Don't think DH would be keen on using a condom only - I wish I get him to change his mind...

No sex is another option. That might persuade him.

chamenanged30 · 23/08/2017 07:31

Noriday

Wellmeetontheledge · 23/08/2017 07:47

I use the patch :) it's called Evra. I hated cerelle- it gave me panic attacks- and I'm not allowed certain pills because of a family history of strokes. The patch is good.

OliviaBenson · 23/08/2017 08:29

Sorry but your DH attitude is appalling. Condoms would be fine surely and far easier than sterilisation.

Abstinence is also another option.

Crispsheets · 23/08/2017 08:31

Your dh is a total knob. That's the issue.

Sofabitch · 23/08/2017 08:36

Diaphragm, condoms, abstaining, or a vasectomy.

chamenanged30 · 23/08/2017 11:30

Wheel the patch contains oestrogen too so how can you have that when it's still stroke risked?

PickAChew · 23/08/2017 11:33

So your dh is fine for you to try hormonal methods and even undergo surgery but is point blank refusing surgery on himself?

Condoms or abstinence it is, then.

Wellmeetontheledge · 26/08/2017 20:32

@Chamenanged30 I questioned that and was told that it was fine so I really don't know. Maybe the original doctor was being over cautious? Or maybe the dosage is different?

I'm happier with it on that I don't have to remember it everyday and my oh can see it and remind me if I forget. :)

chamenanged30 · 27/08/2017 18:37

That's interesting well as the patch has more oestrogen than the pill. The ring has the least.

MulhuddartDrive · 27/08/2017 18:42

Nuva ring?

Spam88 · 27/08/2017 18:48

Cerelle/Cerazette are the highest dose mini pills I think, could you maybe try a different one?

dementedpixie · 27/08/2017 18:55

Its not that they are higher dose but have a different hormones to some of the others. You could try a different mini pill or condoms (do you still get femidoms?), diaphragm or cap

StinkPickle · 27/08/2017 18:56

If my DH was such an arse I'd find abstinence easy.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2017 18:58

I didn't used to expect dh to get the snip but when we were discussing things recently he decided he was up for it so he got it done a few weeks ago. All I need is my missing mirena to be removed (under general anaesthetic!)

gingerbeerd · 29/08/2017 05:55

Diaphragm, the patch, spermicide (not awfully effective), Nuvaring, Fertility awareness, the sponge

chamenanged30 · 31/08/2017 17:02

Non-penetrative sex.
