So the GP prescribed this (prescribed me norethisterone) even though I said that Micronor made me puffy, gave me bad skin and made me achy. I can't remember if I mentioned it also gave me low mood. When I queried was it the same as Micronor they just said that there are different progesterone only pills, different doses etc.
Noriday and Micronor both contain norethisterone 350 mcg! Different manufacturers probably.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone had better experiences on Noriday compared with Micronor (can't see how this is possible as the hormone is the same... maybe the other ingredients made a difference to how you felt?)? I am breastfeeding a baby (8 weeks postpartum). I'm not entirely happy to start taking the tablets given the problems it caused in the past but realise my options are limited.

He should have tried one with a different active hormone e.g. cerazette

I've been on cerazette in the past and it made me bleed the whole time I was on it. Didn't get the bleeding issue with Micronor, but didn't continue past the initial 3 month trial of it due to the problems above. But progesterone only options are limited, aren't they.

Norgeston is the other one you could try. Have you thought about the coil (Copper or mirena)?

I've had a Mirena in the past and had it removed as it too didn't suit me. I've thought about the copper coil but dread the insertion and the possibility of heavy bleeding. Plus I'd have to get it removed at a clinic if I really didn't like it. The GP didn't discuss coils with me, maybe as I'm breastfeeding and risk of perforation may be higher? Maybe I won't take the noriday. Is norgeston available in the U.K.?

Yes it is. Depo injection and the implant are other options. I bled and put on loads of weight with depo and haven't tried the implant. Cervical cap or diaphragm?

I had a diaphragm a few years ago; sadly the spermicidal gel caused irritation. I did order a caya diaphragm once but the gel expired before I used it. Not sure how effective the caya is, though. I didn't think they fitted cervical caps anymore.

Abstinence! The only pill ever to have suited was dianette. They don't prescribe it for contraception, however. I've tried so many other pills over the years and they have caused different issues.

I was on micrnor for ages and then they stopped doing it so I got a prescription for noriday. I actually got on better with it, but after two months I got a coil fitted. So can't comment after that. The nurse said that sometimes they make up the pill with different things.

I wonder if it is a cost thing. That is interesting about the composition of the pill although I wonder why it would be the non hormonal Elements that cause the side effects. Although, some threads on here have been about changes to pills despite having the same hormones, so who knows?

I really don't know. A pharmacist might be able to explain it better. But that's what I was told. Worth a try anyway.

Well it might be worth giving it a go. At worst I don't get on with it and stop taking it. Pharmacists are really helpful when it comes to the side effects; they explain things well.
