How did you feel after copper coil fitting?

I've had the copper coil fitted today and I've got pretty bad cramps. They are coming and going but when they are here I could actually cry. I am also bleeding quite a lot, they said to expect some slight bleeding but I would say it's quite heavy at the moment.

Is this normal? I'm not a wimp with smear tests etc but I found the fitting quite painful, they couldn't get a 10 year coil in and had to go for the 5 year.

I've had 2 fitted in the past and nothing like this. Mild cramps and spotting. Sounds a it odd.
That said I know someone who experienced similar to you and was told to see if settled after 24/48 hours by their doctor which it did.

I had the mirena coil and I felt awful for about 30 hours.
Horrible cramping, proper bleeding for those 30 hours too.
And I had some awful.....erm....diarrhoea-ness going on.

It was fine after that though (until I had pain on orgasm and they said it was probably because I hadn't had children and had a tilted uterus....whatever that means).

I had horrendous cramps, way worse than the first time. It did pass after 3 days or so, when I told the doctor she said it was my body's way of trying to get rid of it like contractions! Totally freaked me out but the positives outweigh that negative.

No cramps at all now and no bleeding, so 3 days of cramps for 5 years of 'freedom' from the 'monthly curse' Wink

I found it really painful and felt quite unwell for some time after - I don't remember any blood but definitely had cramps. It settled down after 24 hours though. If you don't feel better in a day or so I would see a doctor.

Thanks for your replies, it's made me feel a bit better. If it's normal then I can cope with it, it's just worrying when you don't know what to expect.

I felt horrendous. The cramps were unbearable, they started straight away and the doctor that fit the cool explained that the cramps are your body trying to expel it. Took me a few days to begin to feel normal

Not to scare you but I had the dreadful cramps too- like contractions. They went on for about 9 hours and my stomach blew up so i looked like I was about 5 months pregnant. Eventually I decided it wasn't right and I went to see the out of hours doctor at the hospital.

Long story short, the coil had perforated my uterus and I had to have keyhole surgery to get it removed from my abdomen. ShockThis was 2 weeks ago.

However- this is pretty unusual i believe. But worth bearing in mind.

PinkFluff2 how are you feeling now? Hope it's better.

PinkFluff2 · 24/04/2017 19:47

I feel much better now thankyou! I've still got some spotting and until yesterday I still felt uncomfortable like I was aware something is inside me. But I'm feeling my normal self now so hopefully I'm through the worst :) thanks for all your help Grin

Glad to hear it is settling and hope it all fizzles away into nothing.
