Periods after stopping the depo

Hi,

My last depo shot finished in December 1st I haven't had a period since November 15th. The last week I've had spotting but only when I go toilet. I'm trying to figure out of this is my periods trying to come back or my body tricking me lol.
What are others experiences after coming off the depo? How long did it take for your periods to return?

Mine didnt come back for over a year. I was warned it could take 2 years for fertility to return after using it.

2 years! That's insane. I wish I knew that before I had it. I was only on it 6 months

They should have told you. I had it a very very long time ago and I was given a very stern warning that if I wanted children any time soon do not have this injection because it can take up yo 2 years for fertility and periods to return.

Assuming the formulation of depo has not changed then that advice should be current. I was only 21 and not wanting a child no no problem.for.me.

try and see if you can find the information leaflets online. it will tell you about getting fertility back.

I was only on it for 6 months too. Over a year after with no periods after that.

Did you have any spotting within that year? Or nothing? I've been spotting lightly on and off for the past week

I had my last depo in march '16 and still no signs of a period, no spotting or symptoms either.

March! That's a long time... I have been getting spotting and sore boobs and cramps but thats it so far... I hope yours are sorted soon x

I've come off it 3 times:

First time I was pregnant in 7 weeks - I never had a period
Second time periods came back after 4 months and took another 12to get pregnant but I was still breastfeeding for the first 7 months of that.
3rd time I was pregnant 7 Months after stopping, can't remember when my periods returned

I was on the depo injection for over 2 years and coming off it I firstly felt ok but two week after coming off it I started bleeding and since then I've not stopped and it seems to be getting heavier with every month that goes by so I've been off it since March and haven't stopped bleeding since which seems to be the opposite to most people and i hate it

@megc11 I was the same. I was due one in Jan but decided to stop. Took until June for my period to return. Then it wouldn’t stop! Odd week off then back it comes. Finally starting to get more into a routine now but seems to be more painful than I remember.

I had the depo for 4 years. It took 10 months for my periods to return after stopping and also took me and DH 2 years to conceive afterwards. I had night sweats, mood swings, unbelievable cramps. I've just had a copper coil fitted today fingers crossed I get on better with this!
