Copper Coil - your experiences?

Had one fitted today as emergency contraception.

Am 3 months post-partum with baby three and despite clusterfeeding baby, periods have started already! Had unprotected sex with partner.

Was amazed how little it hurt and how effective it's meant to be. Was going to take it out after the 'danger period' but now I'm thinking about keeping it.

I want to breastfeed this baby for a long while so hormonal stuff is a no-no. I wouldn't rule out having another baby but at 36 it's unlikely. I would still like that option.

What are your experiences?

I'm really happy with it. 8 years I've had one (pregnancies aside). I never found a pill that suited me and feel happier on a non-hormonal method. My periods are longer and heavier (one of the reasons some aren't keen) but it's not a big difference, everything has its drawbacks.

Very happy with it. I had one before my DS. Had one put in again at the 8 weeks checkup (I think?) after his birth and just used that till I had it removed to TTC no. 2

I had mine 2 years and just had it removed as my periods were horrendous, perfect apart from the period issue x

I had one between my DC, slightly heavier periods but otherwise great. Was talked into mirena by doctor after DC2. Awful; weight gain and depression, had it removed. Hoping to get another copper coil fitted soon for the indefinite future. Heavy periods are a small price to pay to be hormone free IMO.

It made my periods very, very heavy. I'd always had fairly light periods before so suddenly needing super plus extra tampons was a bit of a shock! Had it taken out after a couple of years because I was severely anemic and the heavy bleeding I was having every month wasn't helping.

Thanks ladies. This is all really good@ I don't mind heavy periods really. It took a contraceptive emergency for me have the courage to get one fitted, but I'm really thinking about keeping it now.

How long did the cramping last for you? I had it done at about 11am and I'm still a bit crampy now.
