Cerazette and Mirena questions

I gave birth to our third baby almost 6w ago. I feel quite certain that he is our last child.

As I suffer with migraines with aura, the only hormonal contraceptives available to me are either the mini pill or the Mirena coil. As I had a bad reaction to the combined pill in my early 20s (I'm 33yo now), I decided to see how the mini pill suits me for 3m, and possibly get a Mirena if it suits. After all, it's easier to stop taking a pill than having an IUS removed.

I am bottle-feeding my baby, but my periods have not yet returned. I started taking cerazette earlier today - when should the pill take full effect? Is it after 7 days? I forgot to ask the dr and couldn't make sense of a clear answer from the leaflet, as this is past days 21-28.

Has anyone switched from the mini pill to Mirena? How was it?

I started the mini pill through my last period and the dr told me to use condoms for a week. I laughed as Dh has had the snip and the pill is to help my heavy periods.

Hopping on hoping to hear other replies. I've been on cerazette for the last few months and due to get mirena fitted tomorrow. I'll pop back to let you know how I get on with it.

Check your instructions for how long it takes to be effective, from memory 7 days but this may not be right.

I was in Cerazette for a year after I had my DC. I didn't get on with it very well as I had random spotting - nothing too bad but annoying enough that I made the change to the Mirena.

I wish I'd switched earlier, as I think the coil is excellent. It's not massively comfortable to have fitted but not too bad. I had a few weeks of spotting after it went in and then nothing at all.

I'm now on my second and it's ace.

I seem to think the mirena works straight away (but do check!!) I tried the mini pill after DS1 but was no good at the short window for taking it, so after DS2 went for the mirena. It's great for me, I'm on my second now and love it.
