Nexplanon implant.......the worst thing ever!!!!!

Hello everyone.

This is my first thread so i will try not to waffle on.

I had the nexplanon implant fitted july 2015 and i have had it in a year.
I have been getting the most horrific side effects of bleeding for 6 weeks and then 2 weeks off and then bleeding again for 6 weeks.
I suffer with depression, anxiety and panic attacks which the implant seems to have made worse, feeling sick, tired all the time, headaches, hair loss, loss of sex drive and irritable.

Has anyone else had the same side effects?

Also i have asked my gp to have it removed but he is reluctant.
I am also wondering if there are any side effects after having it removed. I have had enough of it now.

I had no bleeding for 2 months then regular light bleeds which was extremely irritating. My friend had no side effects at all after she had it taken out due to constant bleeding and mood swings - she said it was the best decision she ever made.

Surely your go has to take it out if you insist? Mine was very clear that if I wanted the implant removed it would be very straightforward.

I had it and hated it too. I had similar side effects. It was a good birth control though as I never wanted to have sex!
I previously had the implanon and was told it was the same - it wasn't. Lots of people don't get on with it. I'd definitely insist on having it removed. You're doctor isn't being very fair - I know they often insist on 6+ months to give your body a chance to settle down (which to me seems a long time when feeling sh*t), so 1 year on its definitely time to get it out. If your doctor won't help, try a sexual health clinic. Only trained people can remove them apparently, so ring around and see who can help. Good luck.

I am glad i am not the only one with the side effects. Thought i was going mad.
It is the worst contraception i have ever had. I would not recommend it to anyone.

I think i might try the sexual health clinic instead to have it removed.

I hated it, with my second implant I bled for 6 months straight. Gained 2 stone - GP refused to take it out - ended up lying and saying we wanted to try for another baby. Got the appointment sorted straight away. (And we got pregnant the week after I had it out haha)

That said I had my first implant in for 3 years before we had our 1st child and I had no problems apart from weight gain.

Sorry you've had a bad experience... I'must on my 3rd now and love it. No periods at all for 2 years + then they start to return a bit so I get a replacement ...

If you want it out, you are best going to a sexual health clinic.
I've had two implants and got on great with them, but wanted the second one removed to ttc again. I was told by the receptionist at my gp surgery that they only have one gp trained in removal, and he is semi-retired, so they don't want to waste one of his limited routine appointments on removing an implant
I went to the sexual health clinic walk in thing and got it taken out there and then.

I've been lucky with mine, was fitted in October after 6 months of horrific bleeding including 2 trips to a&e due to flooding so bad I was soaking through a maxi pad in under 10 mins. I bled until december and since then have had 3 light bleeds lasting a day or 2. I can honestly say it's changed my life. ..

One of the main reasons i opted for the implant was for my periods to stop as well as well as contraception as i already have a daughter and so not want anymore children.

I regret having this thing in my arm. It is a great contraceptive as i dont have sex as im either bleeding or just dont feel like it.

I dont know how my partner has put up with me

Hi sorry for late post if you are still suffering tell your doctor you want to start a family. Its against you're human rights if he doesn't remove it. Good idea.

I'm currently on my 3rd Nexplanon implant. As I had my first implant put in at the age of 17 and only started my period 7 months prior. I wasn't too sure whether the mood swings/depressive mood was normal. I continued using this method as i thought it was normal to be feeling the way I was. How wrong could I have been?! For the last 3 years I have had constantly bleeding 4-6 weeks on, 2 days off and then back to constantly bleeding, terrible headaches, cytsis and low/depressive moods. It has only just clocked for me recently (last 6 months) that this isn't normal and I'm certainly not the person I used to be. The simple things in life like getting dressed, making a drink was and still is too much effort.my body aches. I used to be such a confident person and somehow I seem to have lost all my self confidence and the person I used to be. I find myself constantly snapping at my partner, anxiety is through the roof and I now can't sleep at night. I have no sex drive at all and sometimes think all these issues that my partner of 3 years will end up leaving if it continues. Everytime I see a doctor they can't be bothered or even take interest in how I'm feeling. I need to get this thing out of my arm. I would not recommend this to anyone and would prefer to be super careful sex than have the implant again.

Fakeface I had to have mine out and it was the best thing I’ve done. Does your GP have a family planning doctor? If so, it might be worth talking to them. Failing that, see if you can talk to someone at your nearest women’s clinic. I totally agree - it can’t be good to bleed THAT much and it really does make you feel crappy xx
