Warning of contraceptive implant!

6 years ago I had the implanon contraceptive implant placed had no issues so when it came to its end of life why wouldn't I continue to use this method. I was told implanon was being replaced to the nexplanon implant but worked in the same way. Okay, great.

As many of you 3 years ago I became quite unwell and lost a lot of my hair and came out in an unknown skin disorder covered in blisters, underwent many investigations and treatments some of which quite invasive. Months later it seemed to settle however I never seemed to get over the extreme fatigue and foggy mind, hot flushes etc resulting in being told it could be thyroid cancer but then ruled out. I continued to live with this and muddled through it without any answers and being told I was a medical enigma.

End of October I began to experience abdominal pain which became more and more severe resulting in hospital stays, I was given different diagnoses every time I saw a different specialist. I developed cysts, insomnia and ended up taking mounds of medication which basically sedated me for a matter of months. By end of February I decided that taking oral morph was ruining my life as months where just passing me by. During all this my period never stopped. I asked way back in December if it could b anything to do with the implant? I was told no and that they would get to the bottom of it! They didn't and told again oh your an enigma! Not very reassuring.

Tuesday this week my implant was being removed as it was end of its life. Now only 4 days later I feel so much better, So decided to research a little more, I had read on some forums of others side effects previously but I found a detailed report on a medical site the results of the clinical trials of nexplanon.

Here's where it all pieces together, all my current symptoms more than 5% of women had these side effects the most surprise was reading on where it listed all symptoms I had experienced 3 years ago!

Why on earth did none of the specialists tell me this was the possible root of my problems? Nexplanon costs a lot of money that they see as being wasted If removed early!!!

This is only my experience with nexplanon and other women experience no symptoms at all and I never fell pregnant so the fundamental reason for being there it did the job. However I feel that women MUST stick to their guns, u know your body better than anyone! If you are experiencing symptoms which you believe is down to the implant push to have it removed straight away. Do not let them bully you into keeping it in.

I have lost money due to time off missed spending quality time with family and friends and have been miserable! All down to a little rod that was meant to help me!

WOMEN IF YOU FEEL THAT THIS IS CAUSING YOU PROBLEMS DONT WAIT GET IT REMOVED THERE ARE OTHER FORMS OF CONTRACEPTION OUT THERE.

I UNDERSTAND THE FINANCIAL STRAIN THE NHS IS UNDER BUT OUR HEALTH IS WORTH MORE THAN ANY MONEY!
