Contraceptive patch and breastfeeding

I've read that the patch is not suitable when breastfeeding due reducing milk supply, however ds is 9 months now big strapping lad and likes his food!! Would it make a drastic difference? I feel a bit put off the mini pill due to side effects? I have taken combined pill before (10 yrs ago) with no probs?

Hi Etak, there is no restriction in the use of combined methods (including combined pill and patches) if breastfeeding beyond 6 months postnatal, because they are not thought to have any effect on breast milk supply after that time. So yes, you would be fine to start patches and continue breastfeeding, as long as there were no other contraindications.
