Non hormonal options

I recently had the implant out after suffering severe depression as a result. Depression has gone. I guess this means all hormonal options are out the window? Does this leave me with copper coil or condoms? We have 1 child and are undecided about a second so nothing permanent.

If you want reversible contraception, then one more option is the diaphragm.

Also, it might be worth going to an FPA (or other specialist contraception) clinic to talk through the different hormonal methods, as there are differences between them. A POP or the nueva ring might not have anything like the side effects for you of the implant (and can be stopped immediately if you notice it all going wrong again).

It could be the type of progestogen in the implant that didn't suit you. I have struggled with so many pills and Mirena coil in the past and have just started to take Ovysmen. Too early to say for sure but it hasn't made me depressed or headachey so far. Have a chat with a family planning clinic or a GP you feel comfortable with? Best of luck!
