Hi all I am new to this I am on the mini pill and I've been on it for the last 4 or 5 months I've been with my boyfriend for the last 6 months I've had a break of a week off the pill about 2 months ago because I was taking antibiotics and I am sometimes a few hours late taking my pill but the type of pill I am on is suppose to have a 12 hour window I googled it to find out lol but I've taken it a few hours late loads of times before. But a couple of weeks ago I suddenly got a period and today I have just started another period and I can't understand why I thought I would post on here and get some advice about it all before I go to the doctor and ask her about it. Do I maybe need a different type of contraception.

You don't need a break from the pill when using antibiotics, it should be taken every single day. You should use additional precautions (ie condoms) if you miss a pill completely, are more than 12 hours late from your usual time of taking it, or if you vomit within 3 hours of taking your pill.

Bleeding on the mini pill isn't that unusual. Most women on the modern mini pill don't bleed at all but some do have light, scanty infrequent periods, and some bleed regularly.

I would monitor the bleeding and then speak to your GP or practice nurse if it persists. Bleeding can also be a sign of infection, and bleeding after sex isn't normal and should be investigated.

sidge Thank you me and my boyfriend thought it was best that I stopped taking it while I was on the antibiotics because I've heard that some antibiotics can interfere with the mini pill but my docotor never told me to stop taking it so I shouldn't of done I probably messed it up doing that and it turns out that the pill am on doesn't interfere with any antibiotics I've never missed a pill am just normally a few hours late taking it but I know there's a 12 hour window with it. Oh right tbh I was enjoying the break from af lol it just worried me that these 2 periods just came out of nowhere. I will monitor the bleeding and see how it goes and if it carries on happening every 2 weeks then I will make an appointment to go and see my GP. Hopefully its just one of those things and it will all settle down soon.

Sounds like you're on cerazette? I used to get loads of weird cycles and bleeding with that. I think it was due to not having it at the same time every day. It didn't really suit me.

You should try to set an alarm and take the pill at the same time as often as possible. Sometimes it takes up to a year for your periods to stop completely with cerazette. It also made me very dry iykwim!

BigRedBull I am on Feanolla well that's what the brand is called that I got. To start off with my periods stopped completely but I was taking at exactly the same time every day but then when I stopped taking them for a week because of the antibiotics I started taking them at a different time so I have I maybe messed up by changing the time and stopping taking them for a week. Yeah ikwym I do have an alarm set but most days I just turn it off and then suddenly realise a couple of hours later that I haven't taken it am thinking that maybe I should have something like the implant so I don't have to try and remember to take a pill every day but up until recently I was having no problems with the pill and then suddenly I got 2 af's out of nowhere the first one I wasn't too bothered about but getting another one 2 weeks later just had me a bit worried and I didn't want to waste the doctors time about it if it turned out to be completely normal.

Taking it an hour or two different to the usual time is unlikely to make you bleed, I think it's more likely that skipping a week caused you to start bleeding randomly and it may take a few more weeks of taking it daily to settle down again.

Feonolla is the same pill as Cerazette, Cerelle, Aizea; they are all the same pill made by different companies.

The implant is a similar type of hormone to the mini pill so if you are otherwise happy with your pill but would like to not have to worry about taking it daily then it could be worth trying an implant. Keep taking your pill for now and see if things settle but then see someone if they don't and maybe discuss the implant.

Thank you sidge I will keep taking it and hope that it all starts to settle down again. I've been given a different brand of pill cerazette which is annoying wish they would stick to just one brand. But I've made an appointment with my GP to talk about trying something else like the implant or the coil because it looks like I'm about to start bleeding again so there's definitely something going on. Thank you everyone for you help and advice.
