Marina coil

hi everyone
I had the marina coil 17 months ago I am 26 with 5 kids so dont want more kids but wasn't ready to have the snip so the doctors told me it was the next best thing but am not so sure I have been to my doctor and they keep saying it's fine but am not so sure
When I first had it done I was told I would bleed for a few days I was bleeding for 6 weeks then come off for a week then back on for another 3 weeks then I went to on for 2 weeks off for 2 weeks it was like that for a year then a year to the day of having it done nothing but I have put on 3 stone in weight the pain is unreal some days I have nothing then others it hurts so much even just to go for a wee!!
My sex drive I don't have one I don't want my husband to Touch me most days
I am so irritable I get upset over the silliest things
I have bad headaches to the point I can't move my head
But the thing that most worries me is the fact I think am pregnant because I feel pregnant if that makes sense my boobs hurt and have got bigger morning sickness I need sleep all the time even if I have a good nights sleep I can be awake for two hours and be falling asleep standing up. Food cravings like all the time the same food cravings I was have with my other pregnancies.
I have done test but comes up negative
Is this normal has anyone else ever had anything like this I have asked the doctor to remove it but they just keep putting me off HELP PLEASE Confused

You have the patience of a saint to have lasted 17 months. I had a marina coil fitted six months ago for heavy periods. It was hell. Exactly like you have experienced, I had the overly long periods (feel like I have only had a couple of weeks free of period), terrible mood swings and painful breasts.

As a result I had the coil out last friday. You don't not need to have an excuse to have the coil removed. I would make an appointment and don't leave until they do something.

One thing my doctor did say was that if you have a long womb, the coil can slip down causing the pain and making the coil less effective. They can scan you to see were the coil is. I just wanted it out.

I hope you can get help from your doctors. The coil can be brilliant for some people and terrible for others. Good luck!!

Thank you to tell the truth I haven't had much Choice in keeping it in every time I go to the doctors they fob me off with something else we're give you pain killers we done a scan see if everything is ok am still waiting for the scan they are now saying they can't remove it till I have the scan I feel so depressed about it all I just don't know wot it's doing to my body any more I give up Sad

That is disappointing from the doctors. As with every contraception it is a choice to have it or not. They would not hesitate to remove it if you went and said you wanted to try for another baby. So why they feel they can fob you off when it is absolutely obvious that the coil is not for you is beyond me. I can understand why you are feeling this way. I only experienced it for 6 months and that was enough for me.
Could you go back and say you want to try for another baby. Get them to then take it out and then go back and say you have changed your mind.

I said that at Christmas that's when they told me I need a scan to see where it was coz of all the pain I was having am still waiting 7 months later went back last week to talk about the feeling of being pregnant and that she told me that was normal but everyone else I know never had this so I don't know what to believe any more!!! Xx

You shouldn't have to lie to get it removed. It is causing side effects that are unacceptable to you, you have given it more than enough time to settle. Just make an appointment for coil removal and don't take no for an answer, take someone for moral support if you need it and employ broken record technique 'the side effects are unacceptable, I want the coil removed' 'the side effects....'
I am in a similar position after 6 months - random bleeding and spotting, weight gain, zero libido, moody and flat. The only reason I haven't got it out yet is we have not agreed on an alternative. It suits some people and not others.

Can you feel the strings? You don't need a location scan because it's shifted? I think you need to kick off a bit - either you want it removed there and then or you want a referral ASAP to gynae if they can't find it. They are fobbing you off!

The feeling of being pregnant is quite a common side effect. Some people the side effects are minimal and others like us the effects are magnified. Most just sit in the middle pootling along!

Of course I have no idea where you are based and cannot tell how long your hospital waiting lists are but 7 months seems a very long time to be waiting for a routine scan. Have they put in a scan request or maybe the hospital have lost the details. Either way another chat (firm chat) with your doctor is needed because you cannot carry on this way especally as you are feeling depressed with it.

Bakingtins is quite right, you shouldn't have to lie. You are within your rights to want the coil out without any arguments or reason.

Dig deep and don't take no as an answer.

Is it your own doctor who does the removal or another. I say this because at my doctors, there is only one doctor who deals with the coil. So you have to go to her. I just made an appointment with her and said removal please.

Thank you both so much I have bk going over it in my head again again am gonna make any appointment tomoz and hopefully have it out by the end of the week I can feel the strings but one doctor I saw said this doesn't always mean they are in the right place xxx

Hated it. Felt like i was in the first trimester of og...ALL the time! Nausea and sore boobs, did loads of pg tests. Worse for me was the lethargy and general malaise along with daily headaches. Sometimes awful migraines. I insisted it was coming out and DP had the snip. Then it was lost and I had to go into hospital and have a more invasive procedure. Go back and insist. I felt great within a week of removal!

I feel so much better knowing am not going through this alone thank you all for your help my doctors are getting one Moody phone call first thing tomoz xxx

If they can feel the strings then it can be taken out. What the doctor could have been talking about was were the coil was sitting in your womb. Too low and it can become painful and ineffectual. Either way the doctor was fobbing you off.

Good luck and I truly hope you have it removed.

I was in two minds as it's the only contraception (not sure if that's spelt right) that has worked for me I am 26 and have had 14 pregnancies from the age of 16 xx
