Long term contraception!

Preferably to be used until menopause!
I was taking Cerazette when I got pregnant with my son. I think I missed a couple pills, so that's that. After having my son, I went back on to it, but just bled for 3 weeks, then had a week off, then bled for another 3 weeks etc. Before it was really useful for me, no irregular bleeding at all- what the eff happened there?!
Then last year in November, I tried the injection (Depro vera or whatever it is) and it was fine for a couple weeks, but then around mid Dec. I just constantly bled until about a week ago! So nearly 5 months. Doc gave me pills to stop bleeding, said it could come back. If it does I'll need bloodtest and maybe exam (UGH!)
I didn't have the 2nd jab because it was an absolute nuisance! I know they say it can take a few weeks after the 3 months for the injection to wear off but that's just taking the Pee!

There's only certain pills I can have due to headaches and thrombosis in the family (but it was due to an injury so not sure it counts). I'm just wondering what else is there for me? Other than me ripping my own uterus out! I know they wont touch me if I wanted to be sterilised because I'm young and have one child (don't want anymore) It's annoying for the women that are adamant they don't want anymore but can't get sterilised. >.<
I think I'm just gonna be celibate! The thought of having a coil has never appealed to me, my mum had it and said it always slips and you keep having to have checks and there's stories of women still conceiving and had problems with the coil in utero. I also don't fancy having a foreign object up there! I did kindly ask my bf to have a vasectomy for my birthday but for some reason he wont do it, ha (not baby dad)!
Am I doomed?

I have implanon it's not for everyone but works well for me. You need to find a clinic with specialists nurses they are really helpful at ours our gp is rubbish on contraception

Oh yeah, sis had that; constantly bled, got fobbed off with the pill to stop it. Then when it ran out she carried on bleeding. so had to have it removed but wasn't told at the time the only way it's coming out is by cutting it out!
Ha, but...it's the foreign object thing! Guess I'm just doomed to using rubbers for the rest of my life!

I'd have a chat with your GP about the mirena coil. Things have definitely moved on since your Mum's coil!. They don't move (have never heard of that) and you never have to have a check up apart from the initial check up. Releases a minute amount of hormone as well as being an obstacle to implantation so much more reliable than they ever used to be. I hardly bleed at all anymore.

I would second the coil. I have a copper one as I don't do well with any hormones; the mirena contains a small amount of progesterone. Fitting was absolutely fine, despite never having had children, and since it's been fine too. It's best to get then fitted at a sexual health/family planning clinic as they do them everyday and will be much better than your GP.

I have had a right old time with hormonal contraception. Hated copper oil and merena.

Currently using personal monitor and condoms.

Not ideal but it means no hormones for me.

Has the copper coil made you bleed more? I have had no luck with hormonal contraception but am really wary bout the copper coil... Maybe it is different for everyone?

the implant has been life changing. literally the best thing I have ever done. It lasts three years. I have no PMT and I havent had a period in nearly two years. thats a massive win in my book. its also one of the most effective contraceptive methods.

Guess it gets to show that everybody is different. I don't want anything I can't stop or remove myself, given all the problems I have had. AS the mini pill did not suit, I don't think the implant will be for me..I may end up using a diaphragm again , something I amanita keen on. But the pill/IUS and implant work well for so many women that I'm really annoyed it does not suit me

Are you sure the GP won't agree to sterilisation, or the FPC? I am hoping t have it but think they will say I am too old! I might have it done privately.
OH won't have vasectomy either.

I've never brought it up with them as I know it's not a light hearted decision, but for me ever getting pregnant again is my worst nightmare as I had such a distressing time after having my son, I wont be able to do it again. I can't relax knowing that I'm not protected. But if you're under 30 and only have one child, you're fobbed off! And also because I can't trust the NHS nowadays, I don't think I'd be able to trust them with sterilising me.

Im.not yet 30 and yet they've agreed to a sterilisation for me after this pregnancy, however this is dc3 which i think is swaying their decision

Ah, I only have the one so it'd never be an option for me... maybe if I had an advised note or something from a counsellor to do it for mental health reasons, ha-ha!

If you don't get on with anything hormonal then it's condoms or the coil. I've just had the copper coil fitted a few months ago, the thought being that if it didn't work for us it was easy to remove. I was achey for a day or two after it was fitted and bled lightly. But since them I'm loving the coil, my periods aren't any heavier, I've had one check up at 6 weeks and that's it now until the menopause for me. They are much smaller than they use to be and I think is worth a try at least.

I really must sort this our, dp is fed up with condoms. But I can't have the removal and insertion again, I nearly died last time so I want a full anaesthetic which I don't think the NHS will do. Am going to look into getting it done privately when I have some time off work but have no idea where to even start with that!
