Morning after pill (gallbladder)

I had my gallbladder removed in 2003, at the time my GP told me the contraceptive pill was now off limits to me... I was married with 2 DC so after a year with the mirror (which didn't suit me) my H had a vasectomy.

Roll forward 12 yrs an I'm single, I have met a guy and we are having sex. We are using condoms but last night it burst.... Does anyone know if I can take the morning after pill, or if no gallbladder prohibits it?

I've Googled but other than saying it can contribute to gall bladder disease I can't find anything.

Can you get to a doctor today, or ring 111?

I think you need proper individual advice.

You need to compare risks of morning after pill to risks of pregnancy; and then also to risks of other emergency contraception ie getting a coil fitted.

Thanks stella. I'm nearly 49 and towards the end of my cycle so I think the pregnancy risk is low.... It just got me thinking about whether I can take it or not.

I need to book a GP appt to discuss it all.... It wasn't forefront in my mind tho when dealing with the breakdown of my marriage!!

I'm pretty sure that there are no pre-existing conditions that rule out Levornelle (even if you can't take ordinary oral contraceptive pills).

Worth a call to 111 before deciding? Conception is rare at age 49, but if you're still menstruating regularly enough to know where you are in your cycle, it's possible.

I think you should be able to take Levonelle.

Previous gallbladder disease is NOT an absolute contraindication to the pill, and certainly not to the progesterone only MAP.
