revenge of the coil

Sorry for tmi I had my first Mirena put in 4 weeks ago. Dr said I would have spotting which I did for a few days and then nothing for a week. Then started a period which i figured was just my bodies last hooray/revenge but it has now been going on for 2 weeks Sad. Main reason for getting a coil was contraception but was looking forward to no periods and now I have a neverending one. I have a follow up dr appointment in two weeks but should I make an earlier one? Is this right?

They will advise you to try for at least 4-6 months before you ask for it to be taken out.
I've been period free for 11 years now, it does settle down, though some people do getting spotting for a few years.

Thanks for replies don't necessarily want it taken out - just wasn't sure if it was right or not? OK so maybe never ending might be a slight exaggeration Wink but its seems that way as I've never had a period last this long before and I'm feeling rough with cramps etc . I was on the pill for awhile and they stopped immediately so I guess that's what I was expecting. OK will stick it out til at least my follow up appointment and see.
