Help! Mirena coil now in my hand!!

Title says it all really. I felt something scratchy whilst OH and I were having sex. Had a feel afterwards to find wire almost out of vag and coil poking through cervix Shock

So I gave it a gentle pull to see what would happen, and now I'm holding it! Confused

Now what do I do?

Don't panic! As bizarre as it seems, occasionally they do just come out...happened to me on holiday about 10 years ago.

  1. No more sex tonight without a condom.
  2. Visit chemist tomorrow and get MAP.
  3. Make appt with family planning clinic/GP for new coil.

All done.

"No more sex tonight" Wink. I can't imagine anything Id want to do less after removing my own Mirena ....

Haggismcbaggis · 28/02/2015 00:38

But of course wise advice Bimblepops

MummySparkle · 28/02/2015 00:44

Aaah pants, have I really got to go and get MAP? Even if OH didn't finish? That sucks!

And definitely nothing else is going up my hoo-haa tonight!

Any practical suggestions for dealing with wire scratches up there?!

Me either, haggis, but y'never know! Wink

Hope you're okay, OP and not too freaked out. It'll all feel a lot less major in the morning.

minkGrundy · 28/02/2015 00:47

Sudocream?

Bimblepops · 28/02/2015 00:51

Have a chat with the chemist, but I reckon they'll recommend it, even without your partner actually reaching orgasm as the pre-cum often contains sperm. Depends whether you want to take the chance or not.

The wire scratches sound unpleasant - a very gentle warm water wash to ensure they're clean, then try to sleep. See how you (and they) feel in the morning. Again, I'd mention (not show Blush) them to the chemist and see what they advise.

Nah, not freaked out by it - i just didn't expect it to pop out that easily! IS it worth getting another one fitted, or will that pop out too?

I can feel my uterus contracting a bit now, which is weird

I got another one fitted and it stayed in just fine til I had it removed (by a doctor). If you were happy with the coil til this, then I'd honestly stick with it. Unlikely to happen again!

I had about 6 weeks of bleeding when it was first put in, well spotting. Which was an absolute nightmare. I was on the verge of getting fed up with it! But since then it's been great. I get a day or two of spotting every three weeks or so, but that's it.

Will I have to go through the 'settling in' phase again?
