mirena coil just fitted

Hi, I've literally just had the mirena coil fitted and just wondered what everyone's views are on it please? I originally had the copper coil but had it changed due to very heavy periods, lots of bad pains and bleeding in between periods. I had an op a couple of days ago and at the same time the doc fitted my mirena. I don't know if it's just coincidence but today I have been feeling so down, like everything and everyone is against me and I'm just so upset. Do you think this could be something to do with the mirena and has anyone else experienced this? Please help!

It coincidence.
I love my mirena more than the wheel, fire and gin.

There is an awful lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest mirenas are associated with depression but you wont ever get a health professional to acknowledge this. Go to see your gp. Give ita few months to settle hif no cjange have it removed

I am having my mirena taken out on the 6th oct due to 2 and a half years of hormonal disruption, I've been a hormonal wreck for the past 6 months, went to the clinic to have it taken out last week but they couldn't find the threads so I have to wait to be scanned and taken out. Apparently I'm very sensitive to artificial hormones Hmm you do need to let it settle and see how you get on though

Thanks, it probably is a combination of lots of things making me feel like this at the moment. I will give it a few months and see how I get on. Want it to work, as nothing else I've tried so far seems to!

Had mine in for 3 months now and whilst the first month my moods were all over the place ,very angry and emotional ,I'm now very happy with it. I don't know when I'm on as I don't bleed and moods have settled right down. I'm a little more spottier but have always had problems with my skin. No weight gain and No increase with appetite ,everything else is pretty much the same Smile

Did you know that general anaesthesia can make you feel down/depressed?

I can't say I love my Mirena (I've had it in since February) but I absolutely need the hormones as I have huge hormone swings otherwise.

I might have my coil OUT during surgery in November, it depends on how the next few months go. On mine, the whole coil is low, the strings are low, and I still have heavy periods. I am hoping they would be lighter on the pill.

I'm fascinated by this. My GP failed to fit mine in my clinically described 'anxious vagina'!!!!! Grin Grin Grin After I'd got dressed my GP said "ah, maybe for the best, I see you have a history of depression and the coil can make it worse Shock Shock

Perhaps my 'anxious vagina' wins again after forcing an emcs earlier this year!!

Just had mine out after 5 years. Took a while to settle in, bled for months and felt very hormonal, anxious etc for about four months. Thought about having it taken it at the time but I have since had over 4 years of no periods so very worth it in my opinion. I did wonder if it had made me put weight on, but alas have put more on since having it out out so I guess not! Sadly am also back to very heavy periods, roll on the menopause :)

ashoesandbagsgirl · 13/09/2014 22:40

I managed 3 months before having it removed. It played havoc with my moods making me anxious and depressed.
Within hours of having it taken out I felt tonnes better. It just wasn't for me at all but I'd say give it a few months and it might settle down for you.

EATmum · 13/09/2014 23:34

Love mine, it suits me well but it doesn't seem`to work for everyone. Give it time though, and see. Good luck!

Hi there,

I have had my Mirena coil fitted 2 weeks ago and have been feeling so ill for the last week.

First I must say my body doesn't tolerate the pill. I have tried 7 different types and they all gave me every possible side effects you could think of. So after a few years persevering I moved on to condoms.
After having my first son I had the copper coil fitted. My periods are quite heavy without, but the Doctor assured me it would regulate it self. After 2 years of periods lasting 2 weeks I had it taken out to have my second baby.
Now it was time for me to go back to contraception I didn't want to go through the long periods/ feeling exhausted situation again so my doctor suggested the Mirena coil saying the hormone were very local, and only a tiny bit would get into my body.

Over the last week I have felt so dizzy ( everything goes black when I stand up for 2 seconds), so depressed but mostly I have extreme moments of nausea. The nausea hits me in the evening and its awful, it lasts a couple of hours, it is so strong and then the next day I wake up fine. I have 2 little boys I can't be feeling ill like this. Oh and no i can't be pregnant I had the coil fitted during my period.

Is that how you feel OP?
