9 weeks after having a baby - pill related problem?

I feel very frustrated by this and now very confused about what to do! I had a baby 9 weeks ago (my second baby ) and started my first period last Sunday (so 8 weeks after having my baby). I have been very unsure about what to do 'contraception-wise' because at 32 nearly 33 I don't really fancy being back on the pill or on any hormone contraception. I want to resume a sex life with my husband but it is proving difficult from the contraception point of view as I really do not know what to do. Anyway I had my postnatal check up last Monday and all was good. I was on day two of my period and the doctor talked me into going back on the pill. She said even just for a month while I decided what I wanted to do. So I started taking it the following day, on Tuesday (day 3 of my period) and so I have only now taken 4 pills which I know isn't many but I an still bleeding quite a bit and am not sure that a natural period would go on this long or if I might still be bleeding because of the pill. I was fine on the pill before my first child and took it after my first child until I stopped to try for baby number two but am wondering if it maybe doesn't suit me now. I feel a bit frustrated with it as I was pleased to have a natural period 8 weeks after baby and at least knew where I was and we could have waited for my period to end and then used condoms but now that I've taken 4 pills is it too late to stop taking it or will it mess things up further? I'm just worried in case this bleeding that has been going on nearly 7 days is because of the pill. What if I bleed throughout all 21 days of taking the pill? But if I stop now after 4 days of pills will my next period be another natural one? I don't know what to do at all. Any advice welcome. I guess u wish u hadn't started taking the pill now and want to know if the pill is the reason that I am still bleeding? When will I be able to have sex with my husband because this bleeding doesn't seem to be stopping? I'm wondering if I hadn't started taking the pill would my period have finished? If I stop now will the pill affect my natural cycle or will this period that I'm on still be classes as a natural period and will my next one be in a month or whenever my next natural one is due? Is 4 pills not many and therefore fine and advisable to stop? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, I don't want to fall pregnant again as I'm happy with my two children and I really think the contraception available is not great if you don't fancy putting hormones into your body or having a coil. What would you do?

Your best bet is to book an appointment with the nurse at your surgery who deals with family planning, and go over all the options, and discuss your current issues.

Meanwhile, if you feel you need to stop the pill, use condoms until you get a solution right for you.

I can't give you an answer about your current bleeding. I now have a copper coil fitted, and have natural periods, as I found hormone contraceptives (including the Mirena coil) didn't suit me.

However, for me 7 days bleeding would be perfectly natural, as women in my family tend to have longer, heavier periods in any case.

I can honestly say the copper coil has not made my periods heavier, the only change is that the first day is much heavier than previous, but the following days lighter than I would have had pre-coil. But nothing that a mooncup can't handle.

Thanks for your reply. My mum swears by the copper coil as she always had one and said it suited her with no problems. Do you feel it or are you not aware it is there? Also is it perfectly safe? I might be better thinking about this instead of putting hormones inside me.
