Copper Coil - positive experiences!

I'm due to get the copper coil next week so I've been reading threads but everyone says it's painful and they have heavy periods. I'm now scared! Do you have any positive experiences? Please!!

I love mine. Having it inserted was painless, it took a couple of minutes. I had a bit of period type pain for about half an hour afterwards and that was it.

My periods are a little heavier but they were only very light to start with, so have gone from 3 days to 5 days. No hormones so I'm not fat, spotty or angry.

I've got the 10 year one and have had it in 2 years now I wish I'd tried it years ago.

I'm getting married in 7 weeks so I was worried I'd have a heavy period on the day. Obviously everyone is different but it's nice to hear good stories!

My is fine. Periods are very heavy for a couple if days but am getting use to it! Get backache about a week before my period. Periods also last longer. Not sure if i would risk one just before my wedding though!

I had one fitted after my son was born (ten years ago). Had that one for five years, then replaced (hmm think I am due to have it replaced again).
I have had absolutely no problems and it was definitely the best solution for me.

Love mine! Straightforward and painless to insert and remove. Periods no heavier than they were before. Most hassle free contraception ever!

When I'm not pregnant I have a copper coil and love it. It hurts me a bit having it inserted (have had 3 or 4 put in and removed over the years). Take some paracetamol before your appointment maybe? That seems to help me.

My periods are heavy for the first couple of days, as others say, but completely worth it for reliable contraception that involves no hormones.

I'm on my second. A ten year one this time.

I won't go back to anything else. Slightly heavier periods and a little bit of pain is the compromise I made for not having 2 killer migraines a week when on hormonal contraception.

Thanks PC. It does seem worth despite the possible pain of it going in and cramps. Hormonal contraception isn't good for me at all. Quite looking forward to it now!!

I've had one for years in between I had a baby. It's fine .

I loved my copper coil (had it removed 4 weeks ago to TTC...looks like it has been a success already ).

It was great...I had been on the pill before, and hadn't realised how moody they were making me until I had the coil put in! Putting it in wasn't completely pain free, but nowhere close to unmanageable (and for a very short time). If possible try and make sure you can rest after having it in, rather than planning a full day of meetings . And do take some pain killers before (the nurse suggested this).

Periods did become heavier, but that was a very minor issue to me, compared to the benefits. I just learnt to manage. I totally don't regret it, and hope to have one in again soon after giving birth.
