Mirena Coil - How long before I ask for it to be removed?

I had a Mirena Coil fitted mid January to replace a copper one which was causing horrendous periods.

Since then I've struggled with apalling mood swings, loss of libido and Migraine. I'm finding myself getting anxious and struggling to cope with my job which I normally enjoy. I've also gained weight.

I've seen other threads on here where people have had similar side effects. How long should I give it to settle down? I feel like I'm going bonkers.

I lasted about 11 months, feeling guilty that I was wasting money if I had it removed. I wish I'd done it sooner as I suffered terribly with side effects too. Have you been back to the docs to discuss your problems?

Not as yet. I think I'll have to be quite assertive to have it taken out now. The Doc had been telling me for ages to get the copper one changed to the Mirena and I put it off due to concerns about side effects.

I was quite lucky, my doc asked me to persevere only once, about 6 months in. When I went back and told her I really wasn't happy with it, she gave me an appointment to remove it straight away. Don't put up with it, it's not for everyone. It should be called the Marmite coil IMO, you either love it or hate it! Grin Good luck.

Thanks muddling. Appreciate your replies.

I don't think it is for me but do like the lack of periods. I'll make an appointment and see what they say.

I bled for the whole 11 months so didn't even have that as a plus side!

Mine took six months to settle down. Same side effects as you describe but now I love it. I don't have periods at all although I know when they are about me hormonally. I do think it has had an effect on my libido but that could be lots of things so not overly worried and we can cope. The up sides put way the downsides for me.
