I have the prescription, and have done extensive rounds of pharmacies who say 'our supplier doesn't do it'. Any experience?

I will go back to the family planning clinic, but thought I would check the collective wisdom of mumsnet first.

Does any one even use one? Or is it totally out of favour now?

No idea.
It's twenty plus years since I've used one (and they often had to be ordered even then). Great method of contraception when you were only able to see DP at weekends. Went in the pill a bit after we married and ended up on the mini pill because of eternally BFing DD2. Since I get bugger all periods and no period pain on the mini pill I stuck with it.

Hmmm, I think it is not promoted any more. I guess you have to be comfortable sticking things inside you, and perhaps people aren't. The first doctor I saw was derisive of my choice, and said she had no interest in being able to fit for it.

i got mine from the first chemist i took my prescription to! but you can buy them online, i had a look before i went to the doctors. they're not expensive i don't think.

Mindalina thanks for the reply...Would you mind saying which chemist is was, and when? Superdrug told me it was discontinued in the autumn.

I got mine from a small village branch of Lloyds (the chemist not the bank obviously).

They had to order it in. It took about a week to arrive.

I don't mind waiting... But every pharmacy so far has said their supplier has discontinued....

I have doubts I will have got it by the time I go for the second appointment to check I can use it properly

oh thats an interesting point, it was a small independent chemist and not in the town centre. unfortunately that doesn't help you! (unless you are in wsussex, in which case pm me) i do think diaphragms are a relatively unusual contraceptive choice now.

I have a Leas Shield which is a type of diaphragm. You buy it online and one size fits all. I got mine from Germany.

Hello hidden home... Leas shield looks interesting.... I wonder how much difference the ability to pass cervical secretions makes as compared to standard diaphragm?

I went to lloyds... They phoned several suppliers and cannot give me a concrete answer until next week.
