mirena coil

I had the mirena coil fitted 2 days ago and found the whole experience excruciatingly painful. I was unable to do anything for the rest of the day and spent a lot of it lying in bed crying from pain. Im still getting some bad cramps although they are getting less frequent. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with it.

Yes. I threw up, it was so bad - but it did get better. Day 1 was horrid but better, day 2 a bit better, and by day 4 was fine...

Thats not good to hear but at the same time I'm glad its not just me. I passed out afterwards, luckily my boyfriend is a good catch! Saved me from the floor! I'll keep on the painkillers and hope it passes.

I am a bit annoyed at how the doctor played down the pain. She described the fitting as slightly uncomfortable and might feel a second of pain but nothing more. It was a really painful fitting from start to end. She also made out the pan afterwards would only last a few hours, hence I'm worrying.

I also read that theres meant to be a 6 week check up, but I wasn't told about this so haven't booked one. Would you advise that I did?

With my first the actual insertion was pain free but I had bad period pains after for 24 hours then it eased, with the second It was slightly worse going in but no pain after, my mums has an amazing pain threshold and was in agony for a few days, keep taking the pain killers and get a hot water bottle x

Mine was excruciatingly painful to put in too. The dr's hand was shaking afterwards typing up the notes.....very experienced dr too. They had to use something to stretch the cervix.......bumming heck it was agony. I've never gone through labour and had my 2 DC through C section so I assume that was part of the reason it was so painful. Plus I think I was the wrong part of my cycle for the cervix to be at its most open. I had cramps for a couple of days after too.

I've just received my letter to talk about getting it changed. Actually not sure what to do as it was so bad last time. Think last time I told DH that a lifetime of celibacy was preferable to having the coil fitted!!

hmm seems like it varies quite a lot then :/ It hurt but it should still be worth it for 5years of contraception!
